An update...

No one promised any of us that getting published would be easy. Intellectually, I know we all must get a lot of refusals before getting the satisfaction of seeing our work in print. That is the process I am dealing with. I just recieved a refusal e-mail from E-Wings press, my second to date. I am still determined to make this happen even if I have to self publish. After a few tears are shed that is...

I'm sorry, Dat. It's disappointing to get a refusal, but I too understand that writers get a lot of them. It's not necessarily your story, it's just not what that publisher is looking for right now. Keep trying. You'll find the right place at the right time if you are tenacious enough. Your writing is wonderful, I look forward to seeing your book for sale at my local Barnes and Noble book store.

I love your new photo. You look beautiful in it. I have no doubt that one day you will be published. Your writing is awesome and I've always enjoyed it. Just keep your head up and keep going a head. Like Sunny said, "We're here for you!"

Awww, Dat! Sorry to hear there are publishers out there that don't know good stuff when they see it! One of these days you'll find one standing out from the rest that actually knows what they are doing, and then you'll be getting an acceptance e-mail. Till then, keep on keepin' on! We believe in you!
I agree with Kat on your icon pic! Nice!

Thanks everyone. I apreciate your encouragement more that you can know. I'm going to have to call it a day and get some sleep. I can't research anymore tonight because the words on this screen are getting hard to see... Good night all.

hey, remember that rejections aren't necessarily about the work you submit. Even the biggest publishers are only going to do so many books a year. If they have their quota (most have many years worth in a backlog) you won't get published by that publisher, period, no matter what you submit. the lady I work for most of the time started a publishing company primarily to do her own books, but we have stacks of submissions even though the website plainly states that we aren't taking them. I can't imagine how many places that are actually accepting them get. Some writers will just nearly put a gun on us to try to get us to publish their books, even though the majority of the stuff we see isn't worth a damn in the first place. Then, there's things that do get published by other publishers that should never see the light of day, but they do.

Problem is no one wants the manuscript. They want us to condense our book into two chapters and then if it does not HOOK them at the third word, they toss it. I know there is no way they could read all sent to them. It is like finding a needle in a haystack but the match is out there.

There is a war of books going on with Amazon.com and Walmart and now Target is joining them so the established authors won't be making as much for the publishers.

I did hear that most of the publishers have their quota this time of year so no sense in trying until January so you might want to "juice up" your query letter and Hook em then.

Best of luck to you and to me (:

I'm doing just that. I'm also researching the smaller publishers in order to find likely ones to send it to.

January, February and March are the best times for an unknown author to go looking, unless your book is time specific.
