The Carolinas are nice but we do have some cold days and if you settle near the coast the humidity might bother you. But there are many lovely places inbetween.
Check it out.
The southwest. Southern NM, AZ, TX. Southern CA. These are dry low humidity areas and they get no snow. I will be moving to Albuquerque where they do get some snow but it is usually melted by the next day.

Well let me tell you this. I lived in Bakersfield California for 32 years and I NEVER bought a coat, or rain gear!!! I swear! If you want year round warm/hot weather....Bakersfield is where you want to be! It rains less than 5 inches a year. When I retired about 3 months ago....I knew exactly where I wanted to live. Beaverton Oregon where it rains a lot. And...I had to buy a coat.
The Caribbean islands meet that criteria if you stay on the ocean side.
But you have the risk of hurricanes.

Great suggestions everyone, thanks. I've been to Albuquerque and it was beautiful! Would love to go to California, too expensive, love NC, been there, my dad is from NC, Mt Olive - anyone ever hear of it? Beautiful there too, but small small towns, love the mountains, Tenn and NC, and the ocean, both coasts. Leaning towards NC or Florida, not sure yet. I know FL is very humid, maybe I can travel back and forth.

I will be going on a cruise in 2010 to the carabbean islands, Jamaica being one of them so I can check it out although I dont think that I would want that as my final destination for retirement. it will be fun.

Rae, Settle for North Carolina, the western mountains are wonderful. Our little town is full of Floridians escaping the heat and humidity of the summer...But, do you like rain?? It rains a lot in this Temperate Rain Forest.....Everything is lush and green. Autumn and Spring are breathtaking. Winter is pretty mild compared to the Northeast. I have a big heavy coat that is in mothballs.
Enjoy your cruise.
Miami, FL might be your best choice assuming temperature is your only criterion. The average Jan low temp is 60 F. That is sweater weather. I dont usually wear a coat if it is 60. Many seniors have relocated to FL. I have an uncle who did and he is still living, in his 90's, and has been very happy there for 20 years.
I moved from Dover, NH, to Malta (south of Sicily) a year ago. The summer was very hot and humid, but--there was no rain for four months. I LOVED it. It has never snowed here. In the winter, it doesn't go below 50 degrees F. But the winter is the rainy season--and it's very cold inside the houses and apartments because there's no central heating. You have to use gas heaters. If I had to move back to the US, I would choose the Santa Fe or Albuquerque area. But I would rent there--Ilene
