The electricity is cheap...but what a cost

Hi all. I've been here in NC for a year now and have a problem. What do you think?

We have moved from Southern California to Western North Carolina. The cheap electricity comes from West Virginia coal. Duke Energy is polluting this part of the world with their strip mining, mountain top remoal, dumping their slur into streams and rivers and polluting the drinking water. (Not to mention the CO 2 they pump into the air at their power plants.) We want to put up solar tubes, but our roof is so slanted, it's impossible to do anything up there. Anyone have any ideas? How can we at least heat the water with the sun? We hate to support polluters of the environment. There is no such thing as "Clean Coal". These coal companies have already destroyed Kentucky, and yet they have never been subject to federal regulations.

Any suggestions on how to heat the water without going up on a very dangerous roof?

Thanks, Meeker. My grandfather was a coal miner in Utah and died because of injuries incurred when the mine collapsed on top of him. My grandmother was a widow at the age of 28 and raised four children on her own. The coal mines are getting away with murder. The same mine that killed my grandfather had another "accident" a few years ago. But, it's not just my personal anger at Duke that makes me want to cut the use of their power. They are killing people and ruining the planet. One person at a time can make a difference. Penny
