It's Official: No More Med Pot Arrests By Feds!

Photobucket
High All! It was all over the news this morning that the Federal government is ceasing ALL medical pot persecution-and-prosecution of patients, physicians, and providers, who are compliant with their respective state medical pot laws. To quote from the article:

"In February Attorney General Eric Holder indicated in a press conference that the Obama Administration–which favors physician-recommended access to medical cannabis–would abate from what had been an aggressive law enforcement (and propaganda) campaign against medical access to cannabis."

Well now it's "official," per a 3-page memorandum. This is a GIGANTIC victory for ALL of us, because it's ONE MORE STEP towards eventual, COMPLETE legalization! Below is a link to the article, where you can watch a video about this ground-breaking shift in federal policy, along with additional links in it to the actual wording of the memorandum, and where you can read responses by others, just like you, to this recent announcement.

There's an ironic, but sad, footnote to this: The Los Angeles DA is moving forward with a plan to prosecute "100%" of ALL medical pot dispensaries/distributors for selling medical cannabis! I think this is unrealistic and way too expensive for Los Angeles County to pursue these medical pot arrests. Our state is OUT OF MONEY, and yet, this guy would like to waste time and resources on closing down these medical pot centers...huh?? Talk about your law enforcement priorities being screwed up! I've included a link below to this article, as well.

Still, let's not lose sight of the fact the Fed's HAVE taken a good 1st-step in abating Draconian federal pot oversight (that's not needed OR wanted!). Stay Well, Stay High and Peace! Alison

I do think it is good news that the feds are going to stop prosecutions of medical marijuana providers and users in states where it is legal. I am also worried about the LA district attorney's intent to prosecute dispensaries. Apparently he also wants to go after doctors who reccommend cannibis too freely (in his opinion.) Until this ridiculous prohibition is ended there will be many more arrests, confiscations of property and incarcerations of gentle people who are just doing what they should have the right to do.

More concerns:
1. most states aren't clear on what is legal
2. If it's not legal....the Feds are full on

Therefor one of the things that must be done is clarification of state laws.

Also it would be wonderful if the states that do have med mj would accept reciprocity from other states.

We're far from out of the woods yet.

Damn! I am ignorant, for a California 215 cardholder. I actually believed there WAS reciprocity between states. Didn't they just come out with many places it's cool to carry your medical through the airports?

Aren't airports controlled by FEDS?
Hope you're correct seagazer. Can't take my meds when I travel. Often visit our kids near Boston. Would love to take it with us. (Who said that you can't take it with you?)

Dudes and dudettes, I have taken it with me to and from places you wouldn't believe, with never even a twitch. I guess I really don't look like the full-on doper I actually am. I mean, I don't go ANYWHERE without. Be bold!
