after a long cold night in the trees, and almost all of today with me searching and calling him, Sammy (the quaker parrot) flew down on (of all things!) the cats houses i built out back! LOL! i just went to him and he climbed onto my hand. i brought him in and then had to go get his cage. i put him in it and i believe he ate for 30 minutes straight! he is sleeping now. thank God he is safe. and thank all of you for your prayers! prayers works. and i appreciate them so much!!

Don't know what happened - but here is Debbie's post -

I'm so happy about his return. How lucky you are! Let\s hope he is healthy from his "adventure" out of the house.

I am so glad little Sammy is back safe and sound. The poor little thing. He must have been petrified. I cannot imagine our little Conure lost somewhere. It's like loosing one of your kids.

Glad he's safe!!!

Such an incident has been a nagging nightmare of mine for years. When they were all clipped, we'd occassionally take one of our guys out on the back porch with us. Never were they left unattended - not even in a cage.
We've long since quit clipping their wings and so the vigilance regarding keeping doors closed has always been foremost in my mind. Unlike so many assume, they do not want to escape to the outdoors. But in a moment of inattention, if they got spooked or thought maybe they were gonna follow one of us out the door - it could end tragically.
We live in the country and there are Hawks living locally that are all to ready to prey on an innocent or unknowing meal. I've watched them attack my cage full of doves out back. And they've successfully had a dove inner, right thru the cage wire! I'd be devastated if one of our family members became hawk fodder.

I want to warn you all. Even in a sturdy, wrought iron cage - outside your birds are NOT safe from predators!

Sammy's lucky. Love him alot tonight.

I love happy endings.! This is one of the few that turn out happily. Give that birdie extra treats and lots of loving

Arcade, we've got hawks here too, so when I do have Dakota out I'm just a couple of steps away from an enclosed patio and I've always got one eye on the sky. There are many dangers out doors, and one can't always anticipate an accidental escape, but it's good to be informed.

Final update on Sammy the Quaker Parrot - he is doing fine - no apparent ill effects from his adventure - just glad Debbie found him before the nights in North Carolina got any colder!

Thanks for all the hints, suggestions and prayers.
