If not too late, Linda. Went there years ago with two children. As I recall one island is a national park, so probably few accomodations, unless you camp or tavel with camper. Other one, more southerly I recall, is the busier tourist island. When we visited everything filled up early and we had to return to Brownsville for lodging.
Final caveat: Be careful of too much sun. My son and I jogged and he got badly burned.
Hope you will have/ or had a good trip. (Over to Mexico afterwards?)
Lowville,
Thanks for the information; I will careful in the sun. Mexico???? I don't know, I have never been there
and I'm probably too scared to go.
Of course I crossed the Border from Brownsville, TX. before 9/11 so I'm sure Security is tighter now. And I assume you have a passport, living not too far from Canada (just as i do.) We just walked across/ or could take a Bus. Never tried to drive in Mexico. I'm not that daring.
Should be lots of souvenirs and food. Remember Bottled water.
But lying on a beach in the Padre islands sounds inviting as winter gets closer.
Have a good trip. Remember it's an adventure. Report back Linda.
If it is not too late be sure to eat shrimp at Big Al's right on the water. It is some of the best shrimp ever! You can cross the border at Progresso, park your car on the US side and just walk across the bridge if you want to do some shopping over there. Do not know if there is a problem with the drug situation now though. we spent time there in that area two years ago.
Thanks for the info Lowville and Blueridge! I love shrimp so I wll try Big Al's and I will report back with MORE information than you'll want to know(-:
