In your quest for comfort, a decent night's sleep, the ability to move freely and walk without lots of pain what have you found that works for you? This can be any product, clothing item, shoes, bedding and, yes, even undies!! (Remember, you can't post products you are selling on this group.)
We discussed this a year or so ago but have lots of new members who might benefit from what we've learned.
Well, back when I was still working folks were just beginning to wear the backless shoes. Thought I wouldn't be able to wear them because I thought I would walk out of them, but I was having so much trouble with tendonitis that I finally got a pair of Crocs after I came out of work. Within a couple of weeks I quit having trouble with the tendonitis and haven't had a problem with my heels since. After years of not being able to walk any distance without my heels hurting, I don't have any problems with that any more. I still can't walk much because of my back and the fatigue, but my heels don't hurt. Now, I have more backless shoes for everything - can't wear Crocs everywhere, or can I?
I used to wake up 4 or 5 days a week with a horrible headache; since I went for the sleep study and made myself learn to use the CPAP machine, and started taking Topamax for migraine prevention, I only get migraines once every 3 or 4 months. A blessing!!
I've been buying the slip-on shoes now for three or four years. They are the best for me too.
I use a down filled feather bed to help my sleep. I bring it with me for extended visits along with my own pillow-always.
I always buy my nightclothes roomy. Maily because I'm always in them longer than anything else. The big underwear really didn't work for me. And I have found my underclothes bother me much less if I'm with people versus being alone focused on me!
One thing for sure is all of my products have to be unscented. I've started bringing my shampoo and gel with when I get my hair colored. Anything I bring into my home has to be unscented. I had to shampoo my dog after his last grooming! I've talked to the groomer about this more than once.
Sometimes the smell of store bought bread will give me a stomach ache/headache. I've noticed it with Sara Lee from Wal-Mart. It seems as though more and more things bother me as I go along my path.
I'm curious about everyone else. Any good ideas out there?
You would hate the crappy little Homeland (Safeway)in our village, I avoid it except for emergencies, and never go in the early evening. Instead of venting their fryolaters outside, they hit you in the face with that nasty, overwhelming, greasy, fried chicken smell. It's nauseating. Pin and skin sensitivity are my biggest issues, so Himself's boxers and soft t-shirts are the most comfortable for me to sleep in. I can feel every wrinkle in anything, what I call the Princess and the Pea syndrome, so I don't buy any sheets below 600 thread count, and the 100% Egyptian cotton knit ones, they feel like an old comfy t-shirt. Crocs are wonderful, especially when in the kitchen and on one's feet for awhile. If you can afford a chef's mat for the kitchen they're a treasure. Even my dogs have to be soft, :<) and Sushi and Quai Lo are like silky, boneless wiggles.
We bought a good bed 10 years ago with our wedding money. It is a pillow top one. It has been good so far. Pillows? I have quiet a time finding one I like. Finally after many trials, I found one I like that works for me at Walmart for $12. I know? I have bought so many over the years it is ridiculous! It is a Beauty-rest sidesleeper. Only buy 600 ct or higher sheets or flannel ones for winter. Have the same problem that OP has. No wrinkles can be under me or I am not comfy!!! Electric Blanket in winter a must here in OH! Sleep in an all cotton T-shirt, no tags!! Underclothes, if I must, sports bras, underdrawers NO tags!! I wear diabetic socks, only. They are stretchy at the tops and good padding to walk on. Wear only New Balance shoes. Yes, even to church. Wear Red Wing boots for winter. I do own a pair of hot pink Crocks my son & DIL bought me for my BDay. Love them, for short periods of time. Heel spurs and other problems, make it a fact of life, for me to wear of shoes all day long. I do have a work mat, in front of my stove and kitchen sink. Those do help allot! Love my Natures Way herbal neck pad. Can be heated or chilled. Helps either way. Use it all parts of my body not just the neck! Gee, I thought my Mama was picky?!?! I think she had this disease too!
A tube sock full of rice that can be heated in the micro of put in the freezer. (I've got a herbal neck pad full of lavender from Bed, Bath and Beyond, but I can't take the smell anymore!) Flip flops in the summer and padded bedroom shoes with fleece socks in the winter. Mens pj bottoms and golf tees in the summer (and lets not forget the size 14 undies, it's like having AC in your pants!), sweat suits with flannel or fleece pjs underneath in the winter. And yeah, I wear this to church too when I can get there. I sleep in a pair of fleece pjs with a pair of XXXL flannel pjs over them and a knit hat. I don't know how this works, but my feet stay warm as long as I have the hat on. (Have I ever mentioned I've been celebate for years? Who would have thought it huh?!)
I tried lots of pillows, too. Now I use a Siberian down pillow made by Northern Nights. Since getting it (I now have three!) I have not had a chiropratic adjustment to my neck. YES!! Gotta have the super soft sheets and the bed made up without a wrinkle, too. You probably won't believe this but Lee Riders Slender Stretch jeans are as comfy as sweatpants! I get the mid-rise boot cut ones that sit just below the waist. Sweatpants or PJ bottoms with the elastic sewn into the waistband pinch and hurt. I get the ones with the smooth waistband that sit just below the waist and have a drawstring. Teva clogs and flip flops, the ones with the mush footbed are great. Even the flip flops have arch support. Danskin socks have arch support and are really soft. Dr. Scholl's spa socks are good, too. They have no skid bottoms and are great with clogs.
In cool weather I put moisturizer on my hands then sleep in mittens. No stiff arthritic fingers in the morning and my hands stay soft. A good soak in the tub using a couple of cups of epsom salts helps all-over aches. I can't sleep with a fan blowing directly on me but I use a small fan that circulates the air in the room year-round. Seems to make it easier to breathe. I keep a disposable surgical mask in my purse for encounters with strong smells. Especially useful for being stuck in a waiting room with someone who OD'd on perfume!
my best friend lately is the biofreeze. I hate all bras and just can not seem to find one that does not hurt my back. I have way too many problems with my back so anything and everything hurts there. Feet, so far I just can not find anything that does not hurt there. No shoes hurt, shoes hurt. Help, I have tried the crocs and the 9 is too small and the 10 too big so can not find those but wore the off brand for about 2 yrs but now they hurt. I just never have a time without feet hurting and trying to find something now before we go on our cruise next month. I went to a store called Shoe Solutions in Va. and a couple stores in Myrtle Beach that sell a shoe call MBP (think it is a P or a T) but anyway they are really weird looking shoes but took the pressure off my heels but I just can not see paying $230 for one pr of sandals. I was told by them I should not wear anything that covers the top of my feet that can not be adjusted because my feet are swelling so bad. Oh well. still hunting.
I am now trying the espom salts and also mineral salts to soak but it only helps for for a short period. Between the fibro and the psoriatic arthritis I am having a hard time with everything lately. Butt hurts all the time. If I am in the car for more than 20 min. it hurts, hurts right now just sitting here but I try to ignore it and hoping it stops which it doesn't do. Thanks fo all the helpful tips that I will be checking out and trying.
I am a Biofreeze junkie also. Gotta have it. I use the roll-on. I buy it online (cheaper) I recently bought a pair of Lee's comfort waist jeans and they are the most comfy ones I have ever had. Boot cut. Nice waist...no gaps or butt cracks. Shoes are backless...even the sneaks are Sketcher's Mules. My Achilles will not tolerate closed back shoes for more than an hour or so....no heels for me either. Bras are a necessary evil.;;;not worn at home. Hate socks but had to wear them to see Mom in NY....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Nylon nighties so that I can turn in bed. No flannel. I use the herbal hot packs also...love them. I need new sheets.....mine are getting "pilly". Love the higher count ones. My pillows are from Carnival Cruiseline. Bought on the last cruise. I also have the Northern Nights ones. No restrictive clothing if I can avoid it. The less clothing, the better. Up north I felt weighed down in clothes. I think I'd make a great nudist if my body looked better. Never wear perfume anymore. I hate bright lights, loud noises and avoid them unless I am highly motivated and medicated. Tend to wear my clothes too big. Sundresses, sans underwear in the summer. Love the hot tub.....aaahhhhhhhhhhhh! Guess that is enough, right?
