Why Don't People Understand Delegation

I hear all sorts of criticism of President Obama as if he is running the country all alone. Some say he should be in his office more while others say he is spending too much time running around. It adds to the same thing = they seem to think nothing happens without him there.

When responsibility is delegated to trusted others who do the research and carry out the orders the President doesn't have to read every word or write every document.

The right wing of the repuglican party does not care about anything except getting him out of office in 2012. They will do, say, write anything in order to achieve their goal...I do beleive they'd like a Rush Limpbow and Glen Beckerhead on the ticket.

A good leader KNOWS how to delegate. It is neccessary for any growth.

Right wingers are authoritarians to start with, so they look to a dictatorial leader who will run things by dictate and decree. The last one who surrounded himself by "yes" men and ran the country like he was king is a perfect example of the type of leadership (rulership) they understand and choose. A bluff and bluster ideologue, 'cowboy' mentality appeals to them to follow and adulate like dogs in a pack. Scratch a right wing nut and you will find a fascist.

They do not understand nor appreciate representative government, the checks and balances system. To them the leader is an autocrat who can just dictate what he wants. They see issues in simplistic black and white, don't inform themselves on the complexity of situations nor listen to opposing viewpoints.

So they do not understand how someone in a leadership role has and listens to advisers, just doesn't pop off with an agenda and rule by decree. GW wrote over 100 presidential letters, usurping powers of other branches of the government, defying the law of checks and balances and thumbing his nose at the system of government we have. That was one of the first acts of President Obama -- to revoke all those presidential letters that tore at the fabric of our government.

RIght wing nuts as a group are dangerous for they would submit to a totalitarian ruler easily, like those did in Germany, Italy, Chile -- every country that got taken over and ruled by a demagogue.

They not only don't understand delegatkion, but they do not understand nor appreciate our system of government and would destroy it

they have no clue (nor respect) what a democracy is all about, despite all their talk of 'patriotism'.

thanks, GG for summing it up so well~

Let us not forget that extremists on both sides like authoritarian rule, and they respect that about the other. Lenin and Stalin, after all, represented the far left while Mussolini and Hitler stood for the far right. What they both hate and fear is the moderate centrists who they deride as week and ineffectual.

That's why, for example, right wingers like to brag that they belong to the NRA and display their weapons. They overlook the fact that the moderates are every bit as brave and don't quail in the face of bluster and empty threats.

By the way, Glen Beck has been peddling gold certificates and gold bars while frightening his viewers. Whether or not he can make wild political charges, scaring people and then telling them they can be safe with gold comes perilously close to "pump and dump," the oldest and most common fraud in the stock market. If he keeps it up, he can expect the slammer inside a year. As my wife says, "After everything that happened with Madoff and others, the SEC would love to convict someone as well known as Beck."

I believe that true liberals stand for limited gov't & individual freedom. That is why when the critics of Obama use terms trying to paint him as some sort of dictorial leader it holds no water.

Systems of government are not easily characterized as "right" or "left" but either free or dictatorial.

These are the definitions of 'socialist', 'communist', 'republic', democracy. Either one lives under totalitarian rule, by a dictator who takes control by revolution and force, communist, or the state owns all, peaceably for the good of all, socialist, or is fascist, a democracy, or a republic. Here are the deifinitions:

communists - Those who believe socialism can be achieved only through revolution and totalitarian dictatorship.
enbv.narod.ru/text/ Econom/ib/str/261.htmlsocialism - Any of various political philosophies that support social and economic equality, collective decision-making, and public control of productive capital and natural resources, as advocated by socialists; The socialist political philosophies as a group, including Marxism, libertarian socialism ...
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/socialism

fascism - "A philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong, centralized government usually headed by a dictator, and often a policy of belligerent nationalism." (From The American Heritage Dictionary)

fascism - A system of government that promotes extreme nationalism, repression, anticommunism, and is ruled by a dictator.

democracy: a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them
a form of government whose head of state is not a monarch; "the head of state in a republic is usually a president"

A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch, Niccolò Machiavelli, 1532, The Prince, Chapter 1. in which the people (or at least a part of its people) have an impact on its government. ...

f democracy
• the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives
• a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them
• majority rule: the doctrine that the numerical majority of an organized group can make decisions binding on the whole group

In the communist states, their form of socialism in fact meant all the tools of production and property were owned by the state -- for the benefit of the state, not the common citizens. They were exploited and ruled over mercilessly, kept in a state of fear and oppression.

Canada has a quasi socialist system for the state owns the resources and many utilities and industries. Where it differs from communism is that the people have a representative government and a voice in running the country, by representatives as we do here.

Fascists are well enough characterized by the definition; Mussolini, Pinochet, just a couple of examples.

What characterizes the liberal "left" vs the authoritarian right is personal freedoms. Liberals tend to opt for more personal freedoms, civil liberties whether or not they also believe in social programs, though most do, to attempt to elevate, empower and care for the weaker ones of society.

The right seems to be more accepting of authoritarian rule, a leader with power to tell them what to think, veginig with an authoritative and vengeful God to a political leader powerful enough to rule by dictate -- disregarding the system we have of limited power in any one branch, including the Executive.

"Right" and "left" are inadequate terms in the political arena. The systems are more important.

Exactly & thanks for spelling it out! I ponder how many throw around terms without really knowing the meaning? Like at those rally's this summer.

Thank you so much for such great information. I agree many people throw around terms they don't understand.

There are people who want to be led and not have to think but the leaders some of them follow really are not keeping their words and actions consistent.

"Do as I tell you not as I do because I am above you and the law." These people won't delegate as they want the power and control.
