Criminal Minds : "Hopeless"

Now that was one scary show. Just another example of man's inhumanity to man. Let's hope there were no psychopaths watching.

I haven't watched this since they first season. Are Garcia and Rossi like sister and brother?

I would describe their relationship in exactly those terms. They are very close. I love how they say the love and respect each other first before they express their opinions about other.

"Because it was fun."? I could not get over that answer. What is fun about destroying other people's lives?

It never fails to amaze me how uncomfortable I feel when I watch Criminal Minds and that is what makes it the amazing show that it is. I literally squirm and cover my ears while I watch. No other show makes me do that. The late great Harper's Island did have that effect as well but that was short-lived. Those guys were soleless. They obliterated their victims faces because they were not people to them. As far as Derek and Garcia they are like siblings and she was right on when she told him he was crossing the line and feeding into the neediness of the victim's sister. He appeared to be listening, but he really crossed the line when he went to her home to tell her the crime had been solved. Will he go in the house and hook up with her? Will we find out next week? Or will we be left to speculate the outcome of his decision? Let's just hope he remained a professional and did not cross that very fine line!

You are so right tufmama, i watch because i like the characters so much, and i think they've done the reveals of personal info at just the right level and timing: Not too much all at once and not just all about one or two team members. i don't watch L&O/SVU as much anymore because it kind of became the Elliot & Olivia show. i'll keep my eyes open, TV guide says there'll be at least a half dozen episodes featuring other cast this season, including Huang, Munch, Finn and Cragen.

But back to this episode of Criminal Minds, and comfort level watching it--i think part of the discomfort is knowing how closely it is based on real cases. We have DVDs of first and 2nd season and the special feature has some stuff with their technical advisers. Very interesting, especially from psychological POV.

Weds episode title says it all, that's how we feel sometimes hearing about things like the 15 yr old who was set on fire by other adolescents for reporting a misdeed of theirs (they tried to steal the victim's Dad's bike i think).

10 minutes in i told my daughter: "Well we don't have to worry about having any sympathy for these perps." So often on CM, as horrid as what the bad guys do is, you are aware they were once victims too and while you can't excuse what they do...you can have compassion for them, especially the ones that seem to be trying to get caught/stopped. They are suffering from compulsions we can't begin to understand and they probably don't either. They just know they get some temporary relief from their own pain when they are inflicting. But those guys on Weds just give me the willies--made me think of Manson and his crew.

i'm hoping we find out Derek's actions soon too. And i agree that Garcia was right to point out what was going on, sometimes people are too close to something to realize themselves.

Unfortunately, Urban Violence is rampant. Just look at the crime statistics for any Large City. This type of thing happens far too much anymore.

Too many loons on the streets with nothing to do.

Thank God I live in a rural setting where nothing much happens. I could not stand to live in a large city. Too many ways to get lost.

i live in a small town (under 30,000) but in the 14 yrs i've been here i've seen the crime (especially random vandalism and violence) grow. It's sad.

They never did go back into their pasts and reveal any type and/or extent of abuse. So we did not know that. Sometimes people just do not have a soul and they are sociopaths or even worse psychopaths. Jeffrey Dahmer had a normal childhood and he became a murdering cannibal. So abuse is not always the catalyst! Nature vs nurture!
