A Rock Makes an Excellent Puppy

A rock makes an excellent puppy.
They're practically almost the same.
Except that a puppy's rambunctious;
a rock is a little more tame.

It's true that a rock's not as hyper.
It may not chase after a ball.
And, often as not, when you call it,
it won't even hear you at all.

And maybe it doesn't roll over,
and isn't excited to play,
but rocks always sit when you tell them,
and rocks really know how to stay.

It may sleep a little bit longer.
It probably eats a bit less.
But rocks never pee on the carpet.
You won't have to pick up their mess.

Aww-thanks, Marti. Also, rocks never jump up and kiss you on the face--something I'd hate to live without! This new one adores me, and follows me everywhere. He's 2-3 years old (he's a rescue, so we're not sure), but he's so small and full of energy, it's hard to believe he's not a puppy. I made it exactly one month between dogs, and I wouldn't have lasted that long if my mother hadn't been in such crisis mode. I got this little guy 4 days after she died, and I must say he's the best little void-filler, ever.

I got rid of all three of my dogs. Two belonged to the R.H., and I just couldn't take all that dog hair and peeing and pooing on the floor, and the lab was still chewing everything and I couldn't take my eyes off of her for a minute. And the old dog hated those two, and he and the little black male kept marking their territory in the house until I thought I would go insane. I managed to find homes for his two. He didn't even notice they were gone until about a month after I gave them away. Then I had to have the old guy put to sleep.

So I am now, finally and at last, dog-less. I don't miss them in the least.

Ah, marti, there is something sad about not having a dog.

No, Search, there is not. There is something freeing and liberating in not having a dog.

A good reason why I have felines. I swore "No more Pets". Then Two pretty little kittens showed up at my door...

The rest is, as they say, History...

Ah, Marti. Perhaps you just haven't met the right dog yet.

A person without a dog is like a heart without a soul.

No, a person without a dog is a person who doesn't have to clean up dog poop, or dog hair, or put up with barking at nothing, or take it on walks whether one feels like it or not. A person without a dog is a person who does not have to make kennel arrangements in order to travel or else bring the damn thing with you, nor does this dog-less person have to mop up dog vomit when said dog imprudently eats crap it finds in the street, nor worry about it biting the neighbors or visitors. Thus, a person without a dog is like a person with a heart and a soul and time and inclination to enjoy both.

Well, at least we don't have to clean up their vomit because they eat it. So, that's a good thing about them, no?
