ANCHO CHILI APPLESAUCE
Ingredients:
5 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored and diced
1 teaspoon ancho chile powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
Pinch of Cayenne

Method:
Place the apples, ancho chile powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lemon zest and water in a pot, and cook on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.

After about half an hour, the apples should be cooked down to almost mush. Stir in the sugars, vanilla, cayenne and salt and cook on low for five minutes.

Years ago, I was introduced to apple sauce with horseradish added, just a touch. I like the creamy one, a bit milder! Tasty change.

Any canning instructions for this photo? I'm gonna guess 5 minutes in a hot water bath? I think this is very interesting, and a good gift idea, for those that do gift boxes of home made canned goods. Thanks for sharing this with us.
