Sorry, gang, but I had to go looking in the back pages and I found this. I know you guys have all seen it, but - can you imagine meeting this one-eyed - well, actually two-eyes, close set, Buick at night on a two-lane highway???? I wouldn't know if it was a really weird motorcycle or what, or how much clearance to give it. Great pics, granddadd. I love the old car pics.
I agree Ollie that one car with the headlamps together in the center was really strange. I have never seen that before. My dad drove a Studebaker for years and years.
I really liked the Crysler 310 and the Buick Wildcat. I remember when you saw a Studebaker everywhere - oddly classy car.
I have to admit, I never saw that one eyed Buick before. Great classics, Studebaker was known as the car that you couldn't tell if it was going frontwards or backwards. One of our friends had that model Hudson - with the "step down" design. It is amazing that a lot of the features that were weird then became common afterward.
Most were really "cool", some were just "ugly". My aunt had a shiny black Studebaker that reminded me of a black jelly bean -- ??? LOL . . .
Speaking of the "one-eyed" headlights, how about the Tucker that had the regular head lights but also one in the middle . . . The cars back then seemed to have more going on with the exterior than the interior -- try to find a cup holder in one of those cars ! ! ! Nowadays it seems there's more emphasis on all the bells and whistles on the inside and most of the cars look alike on the outside. Granddad is right about how generic they all look today. Pretty sad when a Cadillac looks like a Ford ! ! !
