Digging Out
Haven't been on in a while, but wanted to share my Jimena experience with you all! We live in Empalme, 6 miles from Guaymas, right on the bahia!
I have never seen more water in my life! Around noon, I noticed that water was seeping in under the front door. My first thought was for the computer, and I started un-plugging them to move them higher. With-in an hour the water was up to my knees and I was trying to rescue my two little dogs who were swimming frantically! Fortunatly we have stairs outside which go up to the roof, and I got the dogs and went up there. We stood on the roof for three hours in the pouring rain, watching entire houses dissappear under the water. Finally we heard a motor and started waving and yelling, two pongas (small fishing boats) were coming down our street! We were taken to a school, where we spent two nights trying to sleep on cold concrete floors. Long story, short- we lost everything! By the time the water had receeded, we were left with two feet of mud covering everything.
I have been very impressed with how much the Mexican army, and red cross have helped out with food, cleaning supplys and fresh water. Clean up has been a long and arduous task, but at least we are all OK!
