A strong body of research suggests that walking and other forms of regular exercise can turn the dial way down on depression, stress, and anxiety.

That's exactly what a recent 8-year study of pre- and postmenopausal women showed. Premenopausal women who exercised 3 to 7.5 hours per week reported lower levels of stress compared to women who exercised just over an hour per week. Two additional benefits seen in postmenopausal women on the high end of that exercise scale: less depression and anxiety compared to their less inactive counterparts

Always feel better after a walk it bothers me when I miss a day and I think my walks are better early in the morning instead of walking in the evening. The day is off to a good day when one walks early in the morning for me.

Our early morning weather hasn't been great -- dark, cold, rainy -- so have missed walking for many days. I'm definitely getting crabby! lol.

Always works for me.
I have always been a walker but when I went through my divorce (took 2 1/2 years) I walked all day long to clear my head and just get out of the house. I feel it is great therapy and you get so many health benefits from it. I am able to move like I did when I was in my 20's and people think I am a lot younger than I am. I see people my age and they move like they are old - I don't ever want to get that way. I do other things too but walking helps me to stay in shape so I can play tennis, bowl and dance.

Got to do my walks last week at Holden Beach NC so I was of course in a great mood. Nothing beats getting in several miles on the beach. Of course there aren't any hills but who cares, it's the beach!

Walking has always been a part of my life. As a kid I'd walk the five miles home from school to save the five-cent interurban fare for a movie on buddy night (two for ten cents). LOL . . . I started a walking routine when I retired at age 60 in 1987. Before that I'd spend twenty minutes each morning jogging on a mini-trampoline. Today I walk a rapid two miles with my dog Ulysses which includes a number of heart-pumping hills.

My wife, Marge, and I were recently discussing health care for every American. We decided it would be a good thing to weigh people before receiving that care. If overweight they must first help themselves by eliminating the flab. Walking could be a first step, then backing away from the table. What thinkest thee?
