laptop

At this moment.....What is a good middle priced laptop? Need a dvd player and a cd maker. What is a good brand? Do they all come with a card to get the internet?
Any suggestions from ones you may have owned.

I agree. Toshiba is one of the 2 brands that I consider to be good. The other is Sony.
I have a Sony. My daughter and a friend have Toshibas.
You might take a look at:
clearanceclub.com
Most of their stuff is refurb. I bought my Sony from them and have had no problems.
One Toshiba was bought directly from Toshiba and the other at Costco.
Just about all do have wireless connections. Get one that has both G and N wireless.
G is still the most common WiFi, but N is much faster.
You want 4gb of memory if you get a dual core or quad core (but you can get away with 3gb). If you get a 64 bit machine you want 6gb.
Be sure to buy one that has a free upgrade to Win 7, or buy it on October 22 or later.

Thank you, Cathbad. I like the fact people have tried these and recommended them.

I would also look at whats offered at "Frys Electronics".

They have models from 399 to 1199.

They also have a great warranty service.

Personally, I'd wait a few months, if you can, and the ask the question again. Wait until Win7 is pre-installed and the latest Intel chips are available. I'm sure there will be deals galore.

I like HP, I have a HP desktop and just purchased a lap top.

I have never had any problem so I have no idea how their tech support is.

My laptop computer is a MacBookPro. It was the first computer I ever bought and it has been absolutely wonderful. I bought the 3 year Applecare plan with it, and when I have had a question that couldn't be answered here, I also got help from the Applecare people. I have the ability to play DVDs on it and to burn CDs and DVDs. It is so easy to use and I doubt I will ever buy anything but an Apple computer again. In fact, I liked this one so much, that I bought a desktop as well, and it is an iMac. One to travel and one to stay home. I recommend it very highly, particularly since it is so reliable.
