Well, I do own a cell phone. I don't use it. Since I don't have a 'significant other' in my life I would not be a candidate for the question. One of the news stories about this survey notes that it was commissioned by Samsung Mobile so I am not sure how unbiased the survey was. It is an interesting observation.
Perhaps it is a reflection on how detached the younger generation is becoming from interpersonal contact.
Some of my nieces and nephews actually text each other while they are in the same room. Go figure.
IrisLady...the texting stuff has gone crazy. In my opinion, most of it is silly.
I have one female friend that just a little over a year ago, barely used her cell phone. I even had to show her how to send a simple text. Now, you can't get the dang phone away from her. It's like an addiction. Maybe there's a need for a twelve step program dedicated to phone/text users.
I totally agree. I am at a loss as to why there is the sudden need to be talking to someone 24/7. I got my phone about a year ago after a trip down highway 99. I needed a telephone and couldn't find a pay phone that worked. Then I really started noticing that the highway call boxes seemed to be less frequent than they used to. So for safety's sake I got a inexpensive one.
I've never had a Cell Phone and hope I never have too !! lol =:o)

Don't be afraid, Z, they won't bite! You don't have to buy into it like the "electronic generation." A cell phone with limited monthly minutes (mine is 20) is inexpensive and a godsend when you are stuck in traffic and going to be late for something, meeting someone and getting lost, meeting up with someone at a county fair, etc.
Plus, pay phones are becoming fewer and fewer.
I have never sent a text message, nor received one. You don't have to buy into all those fancy extras.
say Yankee ;o) i'll cross that bridge when home phones are a thing of the past :o) I might get a cell phone when I start Traveling around the States for a month or more at a time ?? then that would be my Temp Home !! lol =:o)

I don't have a cell phone, though I did get one for my photo-road trip to Nevada last Xmas, as a safety measure - then I discovered my rental car had Onstar, so why bother w/ the cell??
I bought an off the shelf / pay as you go thing (Virgin Mobile), and it was more trouble than it was worth. Batteries ran down in a day, and it scared the hell outta me my first day at Valley of Fire Park. It started making noises cause the battery was running down, I was a half mile or so away from my car/parking lot, and the sound was TOTALLY unexpected! If I'd have had a pacemaker, i would have thought I was gonna die! I let the battery run down, and tossed the thing on my work table, & left it there...
Watch out for the way these companies bill you! - several months later, Virgin started billing my Amex account for 'top off' minutes, when the phone was gathering dust! I only made 1 call with it.. Fortunately, Amex is really good about protecting cardholders from bogus BS, and the charges were rescinded. But I was rather shocked at how these companies (like Virgin) treat customers. What's the old saying, "A man (or woman) w/ a briefcase can steal ALOT more money than anyone w/ a gun can"!?! Ain't that the truth!
I don't get the fascination w/ all this stuff, either, and I have a terrible time w/ some clients who call me at work, on a lousy connection, that I can't hear ( my hearing is abit whacked from many sinus&ear problems) - sometimes I have to simply say 'sorry, can you call me back on a good ol fashioned hardline phone?'
It all leaves me wondering how we ever survived so well without all this stuff... but I guess we did, didn't we? :-)
