Praise the Lord everybody! :)
Revelations 12:11 -And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Our testimonies are important, as you can see it is an ingredient for us to be overcomers! Therefore...
While living in South Texas I had a need to travel to San Antonio & back from Del Rio one Friday. It is an approximate 3 1/2 hour drive each way...l cannot recall what business I was tending to, but I remember hustling to leave the city & head back so I could attend the Youth Prayer Meeting at our church where my wife & I were leaders. As I was leaving San Antonio & finally entering Highway 90W...I felt like I was homefree...I should be able to make it on time. I had just got into the passing lane to take advantage of it before it turns to 2 lanes, when I observe a man hitchhiking with a large Army duffel bag strapped on his back.
Now...I cannot say I heard an audible voice, but...I definitely heard the Lord speak to me somehow...cleary impressing on my heart & mind..."Stop & pick that man up!" ...to the point I even replied out loud..."But what about the prayer meeting Lord?" and it was repeated again..."Stop & pick that man up!" and I replied..."Yes Lord!"
By now, I had passed him and was probably up to 300 - 500 feet away by the time I was able to stop (remember, I was in the passing lane.) So, I began to back up. This man was running as fast as he could with a full pack strapped to his back...apparently desparate for a ride. When we finally met each other, he opens up the door...he is out of breath and between huffs & puffs he asks for a ride to Interstate 10W to Arizona...I inform that I 10 was not this direction, but approximately 10 miles back. He asked if I would take him there...I paused (still thinking of the prayer meeting)...he quickly quipped, "I'll pay you!" at which time the Lord quickened a scripture to me...Luke 6:30 - Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask [them] not again. I then informed him to put his bag in the trunk & to hop in, I would take him, but I would not accept any money for it.
The man put his bag in the trunk & we set off to head back to Interstate 10...again...I did not hear an audible voice, but I heard something like this..."Here he is, he's all yours" which put a smile on my face and I immediately dove in! He was very receptive to everything I said and I told him about Christ and the love of God, & the plan of salvation...I probably fed him one of the biggest spiritual meals he probably ever had...wanting to plant as much seed as possible, hoping it would get fertilized & watered later down the road & eventually yeild fruit!
We arrived at Interstate 10 and I had to do a turnaround to get in the other lane so I could let him off at the ramp (where he could legally hitchhike) ... however, once we were at the ramp, I pulled over and we were still talking and I was telling him about the Holy Ghost...He wasn't jumping out in a frantic hurry to get away, but still listening intently to what I was saying...I was pleasantly surprised when he said... "I want that too!" ...I was soooo excited, I remember telling, "Oh and you CAN have it, God WANTS you to have it!" & I was fixing to start praying with him, when he said..."I mean I want to go to your church!" ...now! & worship with you ...I was shocked, excited & little confused...I asked, "What about Arizona?" He replied, "I don't HAVE to go to Arizona, I started out on the East Coast with no specific direction." Oh but God has a direction for all of us...Praise the Lord!
So after 20 minutes talking at the on ramp, I was headed back to Highway 90W with a hitchhiker that wants to worship with us at our church! What a blessing! I was able to sew all kinds of seed on the way home from that trip! About half-way home I called my pastor and let him know what happened and asked about finding him a place to stay. The rodeo was in town that weekend and there was the proverbial "no room at the inn"...except for ONE! That's right...ONE!!! The pastor called every hotel/motel/inn in Del Rio, and at last found a place with one room available & got it for him. Praise the Lord!
God is so awesome & so worthy to be praised! Thank you Jesus!
This man worshipped with us for the next year, he lived in the same hotel room during his time there... even for 6 months after he ran out of money, as God sustained him. Members of the congregation provided him with meals and the motel owner let him perform maintenance tasks for free room. He was baptized into Jesus' precious Name, but didn't pray through to the Holy Ghost immediately. We moved to Ohio & he eventually moved to Colorado.
But Oh what a blessing it was when Brother Robert tracked us down & called us here in Ohio to tell us....HE RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST!!! Hallelujah!!! God had a plan for this man...just like he does for every one of us...if we will only listen & follow after Him instead of our own selfish desires...our Maker knows what's best for us!
As expected...the Lord knew all about Roberts trip from the East Coast...more than Robert did! He shared with us later on, that EVERY person that picked him up along the way, preached the GOSPEL to him until it finally started to culminate down in Texas and eventually reach fruition in Colorado! Praise be to the Lord God...He knows what He's doing! :)
P.S. I do not recommend picking up hitch-hikers, unless the Lord instructs you.
