The marijuana smoking oasis exists -- they call it State Street!
Of course exedir got it right. He was a interesting person, had he lived longer he would have been in the movie The Right Stuff.
Ok..in the theme of the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader..
America History...
The question is...in the 17th century North America was beginning to be settled...
Which of these settlements are the oldest in founding date..?
a. Plymouth
b. Jamestown
c. New Amsterdam
Bonus: Of the other two, name them in order of founding...
Double Bonus: Which colonies were these settlements in?
I hated history - when I was in high school, I got kicked out of history class. Now that I'm older, I realize the importance of history, but I still suck at it! Let me guess.
Oldest: Jamestown
Next oldest: Plymouth
Nest oldest: New Amsterdam (isn't this New York now?)
Colonies? New Amsterdam was in New York, is that the name of a colony (told you I don't know history). Jamestown, is that in Virginia? Where is Plymouth...I really don't know...Rhode Island?
Now that I've made a total fool of myself, I'm going to google this stuff and "edjudificate meeseff"
This is a tough one. I was not a good history student. Really did not care. Now Tom loved history and is good at it.
Here is my guess - without cheating
A, makes me think of Plymouth Rock
B, Jamestown
C, New Amsterdam
I flunked history - so I am out. Never interested me unless there was a juicy story to be told and there usually wasn't. Good luck to all you brainers and guessers!
Ok...Mike has got it...except...
Trick bonus question....New Amsterdam was in New Netherlands....a colony of the Dutch....
During the 17th century the English and the Dutch had a constantly changing relationship due to economic competition....which is what made the Dutch give up New Netherlands and the English making it instead New York...and then New York...
The funny thing is the Dutch claim was created with the employment of an Englishman, Henry Hudson to make the discoveries. The point of the mission was to find the Northwest Passage, not Manhattan.
Ok, I got lucky, but I'll take it any way I can get it.
Here's an easy one.
Second Grade Wisconsin Geography
Portage Wisconsin was founded in part because of a land connection (portage) between two rivers, what are the names of the two rivers connected by this portage and why was this connection important?
