Writers block

I have not been able to write any poems and have really not even tried to do the writing I use to love to do. Perhaps because the frieds who use to give me the brutal truth about my writings have all gone. Part of growning old is we keep loosing our those we care about.

ON THE SIDE LINES
first draft 9-24-2009

I hear the conversations all around me,
My children and grandchildren talking,
They think I am involved
with everyday things,
but the truth is I sit on the side lines
I have given in,
given up,
I am without courage
or hope,
I count the losses,
worry over the past,
Wondering when I can rest.
Yet knowing I will awake
Shake this feeling,
Give life just another chance,
Escape from the side lines,
Get back into the game
hoping for a win.

Debra from this one piece it is clear you know what you are doing. I love the immediacy of your descriptions of people around you, leading to the expression of your true feelings.

To me, the real end of the poem is "Wondering when I can rest." The emotions/situation described to this point are so powerful and real, it somehow seems a letdown when the poet replies to herself to the effect, "Well, things will get better." I know this is true, but as a dramatist I guess I like to keep people wondering what might happen next. I also find that when I am in the frame of mind "Wondering when I can rest," I really can't see past this moment into future recovery, so I personally would rather let the recovery part remain unspoken.

Let me know if this makes any sense to you or not.

Things will get better. I have been through so much myself...some very dark hours when I could see no light at the end of the tunnel at all. Then it comes.

Hang in there! I am mostly spending my time at Good Vibrations...please feel free to jump over!

The solution is to make new friends and family. You will also find more to write about.

Debra, I have no friends in the flesh since I have moved to a new town and state. The friends I have made on eons seem to be enough for now. We welcome you. I understand the poem and the feelings. Today, I am weraing something yellow, which always lifts my spirits. Maybe you have something or somewhere that makes you feel good. I also feel good at an outdoor cafe, anywhere I find one. Preferably with an umbrella table.

This is quite a thought provoking piece. Writing can be helpful in any situation. I hope that you are not THAT down. It is hard to see your circle of friends get smaller, but try to look out and see all the other people there are to know in the world. Definitely get out of the house regularly. If nothing else, see the movie Pursuit of Happyness. After that, your life will definitely look better! It sounds like you know how to write very well, congrats. So many people can't communicate. We, who like to write are lucky.
Let us see more of your talent!

thanks all for the comments, they are greatly appreciated. writing has become easir with a spell checker, otherwise no one would be able to read or understand what i wrote.

Unfortunatly I have been housebound and without this world of bits and bytes I would be in a terrible perdicament. It is though the expressions in my poetry, which tend to run on the dark side, I would indead be invisible. AND a good movie always makes one feel better.
