Helping your grandchild out financially

I'm working on a story on a "trend" for grandparents to share their money with their grandchildren during their lifetime (as opposed to the more traditional will-left for the future monies) so they can see the results (going to school, new clothes, etc). At the same time, they're less apt to talk about saving and planning for the future with those same grandkids. I'm looking to talk to people interested in sharing their experiences in this regard.

If you've got the money to share, that's great. However, when there gets to be more g/c, it's harder to share that money, as it doesn't go far. I do have a Gerber Grow Up Plan for my first g/c. He's now 12. In 2008 had 2 more g/c, and can't afford to do the same for them. It makes me feel bad.
