Can dogs think like humans?

...of course they don't. They are dogs.

But they do have favorite foods, toys, dogs they remember and they like. They know which toys are for what kind of play; balls and frisbees for throwing, tug toys for tugging, and will choose a toy for what kind of play they want to participate in.

They have an incredible ability to learn and understand us. They learn our body language as well as a lot of our words. They have amazing senses that allow them to pick up feelings, emotions we are experiencing. They sense when we are mad...sad..happy...and often act accordingly.

They remember places they have been, and will start reacting in the car before they get there (oh no! the vet! oh yay! the park).

They know when we are seriously telling them to do something, and when we are merely suggesting it and will not follow through with a "demand".

They are marvelous creatures that even after working with them for 45 years never cease to amaze me. If anything, I marvel over them more every year.

If raised with respect, kindness and thoughtfulless, there is little they can not do.

Dogs serve man. First with hunting and protection...then tending flocks, hauling carts, rescue, service dogs, and as companions.

They don't care about your hairstyle, if you wear designer jeans, if you drive a BMW. They do not care if you are a garbage man, a waitress, a secretary, a CEO, or a millionaire. They don't care if their collar has rhinestones, if they have a $75 bed.

No, dogs do not "think" like us. And I am glad they don't.
