How does your garden grow?

I live in Massachusetts. The night are getting colder. I'm two blocks from the ocean and it was in the low fifties last night. Still warm during the day, though. Supposed to be eighty over the next part of the week.

My sunflowers have almost all gone to seed and been stripped by the local birds and squirrels. My rosa rugosa has some gorgeous rose hips. Down the Cape [that's Cape Cod to you non-New Englanders] they make rose hip jelly. Yum.

The cinnamon grappa hibiscus has gigantic seed pods and the leaves are starting to fade.

What's left of the basil [after we denuded the pots for pesto] is looking pretty pathetic. Basil hates cold nights.

We had a weird weather summer and I can't believe I still have rhubarb. Usually it dies in the dog days of August--which we did not have this year.

How is your September garden doing?

For some reason, the link is going to the picture next to yours, kester. My oven just beeped but I'll come back and wrestle with this later. It will be a good thing for us to know how to do. Everyone who wants to see kester's picture now, go to our Photo section. It's the second one with a house in the background.

Nope. It's still going to the picture near it. I'm going to try a different picture. Maybe kester' didn't "take" somehow.

OK--I deleted my own comment to see how it would go! I think I figured out how to post pictures. Will put the information on a sticky note.

Meanwhile--I am returning this thread to: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Thanks, Idamay, for the instructions. Here is a picture of the rain garden this June before the summer plants began to bloom. You can see marsh iris and golden alexanders (past blooming) in the foreground and sneezeweed and Joe Pye weed in the back of the garden.

That is really lovely, kester. I'm glad the directions worked. I moved them over to group files so they would be more accessible.

I lost 50% of my tomato crop this week. It sounds bad unless you know I have a 10'X15' plot right out front from my first floor condo. I lost one of my two tomato plants to high winds. I kept the green tomatoes, though. I'll either wait until they turn red or make something with them green. I think the weight of the tomatoes brought them down, stakes and all. They were pretty heavy beefsteak tomatoes. Next year, I'll try tomato cages--or lighter tomatoes!

I live in Michigan and just about everything is dead except my snapdragons and mums. Even the mums are about done. We are expecting a very blustery weekend so that will probably do in most of what's left.
