In a recent fuel economy run that took place in New Hampshire, a 1950 Champion managed 27.5 MPG with an inexperienced driver at the wheel. Studebaker was winning economy runs left and right thru the 50s and 60s. Their V8 models were always within a mile or less of what the Champion 6s could do.

By the way - even tho the ad announcer says Raymond Loewy designed these sleek coupes, it was a subordinate named Bob Bourke who was responsible for the world reknowned styling. Bob worked for Loewy's studios, but was totally independent as far as the design work for Studebaker went.
