5000 Free Stock Photos in Public Domain

Ran across this site view link www.public-domain-photos.com/ There are over 5000 Free Stock Photos and 8,000 free clip arts (so they say).

The are many photos here that are 1024px wide which could be a good size for a background on your Eons profile or on a website. You will need to scroll down past a bit of advertisements to get to the photos, but it's worth it. There is also a menu on the left that has quite a few categories. I've downloaded some for the Eons Background Gallery group. I'm going to optimize them before uploading them, though, which will take a minute or two, LOL. BTW, if any of you would like to share some backgrounds for others to use in creating new skins, you'll be more than welcome to do so!

Have Fun!

Just FYI, 1024px wide works fine for 17 inch monitors but if you have a larger monitor size it may not. I have a 19" wide screen monitor and it cuts off any 1024px images so they dont fit the entire screen on my profile page. To find out what your screen resolution is right click on your desktop then click Properties then Settings or for a faster way just click here:

This is a great link to let us know our screen resolution. But that brings up a problem - different computers and different browsers display things differently - dadgummitt!

My laptop display is "You are using 1024 X 768" and my eMac gets this message: "You are using 1152 X 864" I usually choose tiling backgrounds, so hadn't noticed differences in the displays. Now I'll have to make some choices so the larger backgrounds will look right on my own computers!

So, maybe it would be helpful to come up with some suggestions/tips to consider on choosing/using background images that will help them display the best for different visitors. There are choices about whether the image will repeat or not, scroll or not and what position it will be. Could some of these choices help in making the image work for more folks? Such as centering the background and choosing a color that would fill in around the image? Anyone have some suggestions?

Here's some interesting discussions about how to choose the size of the image used for a background and some methods used to address the issue of different monitor sizes:

Uses javascript to call in different sizes of backgrounds to fit visitor's monitor:

Uses HTML and Css to cause the background image to stretch:

Discusses the ideas above and also talks about having a gradient border on the image that would blend into a background color. The background color would act like a border if the person viewing the page had a larger monitor:
