THE HEART PREVAILS

AFTER 8YRS I CAN FINALLY SEE THE event AS WELL AS THE MASS OF PEOPLE INVOLVED. THE NEW INFORMATION BRINGS UP THE SAME OLD PROBLEMS... COMMUNICATION AND CHAOS. AND AGAIN I THINK OF THE DISPATCHERS, IN THOSE LONELY ROOMS, WAITING FOR VOICES THAT WEREN'T COMING, AND TRYING MADLY TO THINK WHAT TO SAY TO ALL THE RELATIVES CALLING, AND THE CITIZENS, AND EACH OTHER. IT WAS MY DAY OFF, AND I WAS ON A "NO OVERTIME" STATUS, BUT I WALKED IN, TOOK A PHONE POSTION, AND STARTED DOING WHAT EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING.... TRYING TO GO ON. GOD BLESS US ALL, WE'RE STILL TRYING TO GO ON.... kt

Katie, my dear heart. Ya done good! I would have done the same thing. I wanted to go to New Orleans to the PD.... I could have at least kept the coffee pot full

As it was... here in mountain country... I volunteered to drive miles to the courthouse to check the mail during the anthrax scare that was occurring about the same time...

Honey, the urge to help others never goes away. And during a major catastrophe you do the best you can. I am crying for you and your partners... You did the right thing... Absolutely... I send you much love and warm hugs... I am so proud of you all. Pass this message on ... post it on the bulletin board...

You all were not alone... I was there with you in spirit and so was every dispatcher all over our country... been there, done that...Paula Rice, (Disp. Retired)
