Beth Groundwater's Booth

Beth Groundwater had been an active EONS member since July, 2007, a few months after the release of her first mystery novel, A REAL BASKET CASE, which was nominated for the 2007 Best First Novel Agatha Award, named after Agatha Christie. In the book, when police accuse the husband of a Colorado Springs gift basket designer of killing her massage therapist, she becomes a bumbling amateur sleuth. Will she free her husband and save her marriage before the killer gets her next?

“This will appeal to Desperate Housewives fans and those who like cozies with a bit of spice.”
-- Barbara Bibel, Booklist Review, February 1, 2007

“Drugs and jealousy add up to a Rocky Mountain murder. A tense, exciting debut.”
-- Kirkus Review, January 1, 2007

The second book in the Claire Hanover gift basket designer series, TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET, was published in May, 2009. It is set in Breckenridge, CO, where Claire and her family go on a ski vacation a couple of months after the events in A REAL BASKET CASE. The vacation quickly goes to hell in a handbasket when the sister of her daughter’s boyfriend is killed on the slope. Beth conducted a blog tour in May for this release, followed by a two-week book signing tour in June throughout the northwest US.

“Groundwater's second leaves the bunny slope behind, offering some genuine black-diamond thrills.”
-- Kirkus Review, April 1, 2009

“Tightly plotted and very current, the story manages to keep you on the edge of your seat.”
-- Gumshoe Review, May 1, 2009

Also, Beth just signed a contract with Midnight Ink for the first two books in the Mandy Tanner river ranger mystery series. The first book, WICKED WHITEWATER, is already written and will be released in the first quarter of 2011. When Mandy rescues a man who fell out of a raft on the upper Arkansas River in Colorado and he dies on the river bank, she feels driven to find out what—or who—killed him. The book takes place during the First in Boating on the Arkansas (FIBArk) festival that occurs every June in Salida.

Between writing spurts, Beth defends her meager garden from marauding mule deer and wild rabbits, and tries to avoid getting black-and-blue on the black and blue ski slopes of Colorado. Visit her website at www.bethgroundwater.com and her blog at bethgroundwater.blogspot.com . Or visit her EONS profile, and if you aren't already a friend of Beth's and are interested, send her a friend request! As you can see from her long list of friends, she hardly ever turns down a friend request. She loves to discuss mysteries with readers and actively participates in EONS groups such as the Mystery, Murder and Mayhem Book Club, Bookoholics, Book group, Book Lovers Cafe, etc.

Unfortunately, Beth cannot actively participate in this Second Annual EONS Author Online Event because she is vacationing in South Africa with her husband on October 3rd. She'll return on the 4th, though, and on the 5th (or if she's too jet-lagged, on the 6th), she will answer any questions you post here to her booth.

Hi Beth,
Your books sound like great fun, and I love that they're located in the Rocky Mountains. I hope you enjoyed South Africa.
Best wishes,

Thanks, Leila and Amanda, for your replies to my booth. I was really whacked out with jet-lag yesterday after traveling for 38 hours to get home from South Africa late Sunday night (actually early Monday morning), so I didn't get a chance to stop by here until this morning. I hope that the Author's Event went well for everyone who participated!
