I took my grand daughter over to Raspberry Island. She loved the boat ride and the side hike to the beach...even though it was raining!
We went to Split Rock, Two Harbors, and the Pier Light at Two Harbors and yep, it was cloudy...we still had a great time. We actually got to climb Two Harbors....not a big climb, but I have been there several times and never got inside!
On Sunday we went to Minnesota Point...that was a 1.8 mile trek and again back to the vehicle. Then onto Wisconsin Point and home...
Oh, we stopped in Gooseberry Falls after Split Rock, and we had a room at the Comfort Suites lakeside so we saw Duluth Harbor Canal Lights daily and nightly. That was beautiful. The horse drawn carriage went around and around the hotel also...a sight for any 6 year old!!
A fabulous time with a fabulous little girl!!
I'm jealous!!! So wonderful you're opening up her world at such an early age. Well done. You picked some beautiful lights to start your journey.

After Split Rock stop by Betty's Pies for some wonderful blueberry pie.
Mienew........Yep, I started her up in Door Co WI, then down to Wind Point and Milwaukee North Point WI, and all of the pier lights in that area. She sure loves them so I am hoping it stays with her!

I stopped up at Betty's Pies in 2006 I believe......and when driving by this time, they were doing a booming business!!
In fact, every business in the areas we were at was booming....wheres the recession? (Not that I am disappointed!)
Sounds like you both had a fabulous time! I hope to get back up that way soon.
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Wants Input On Lighthouses
The National Park Service has released a draft environmental assessment for lighthouse preservation efforts at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Public comment on the document will be accepted until April 29 and an open house will take place on April 12 to gather public input.

Five Apostle Islands Lighthouses To Be Restored
The National Park Service's largest and oldest collection of lighthouses is due to get a major facelift. Five of the six light stations in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will undergo some restoration. This is the most ambitious preservation effort in the Apostle Islands. It'll begin this spring and end in 2013, restoring and repairing not only the lighthouse towers but also many of the out-buildings where lighthouse keepers lived with their families.
