Wonderful memories of my trip to Germany

Several years ago I took a trip to Germany with my now ex hubby, we toured Europe for a month, some of the places were visited included Heidelberg, Wurzburg, Mainz and another part I can't remember where a German friend of mine lived at the time. I absolutely loved it over there. I think my heart is still in Heidelberg, it was the second time I had been there, once with my parents on a tour when I was much younger, but you know how tours are, rush rush rush, so I really didn't even remember being there, to me it was all so new. I remember going to an organ concert at the main church in the center of Heidelberg, if anyone takes a vacation there, that is not to be missed, such a beautiful sound from that organ. We also took a ride down the Neckar River, waited through the locks in the water, I'd never seen anything like that first hand before, a new experience for me. My German friend Angela took us to Mainz and we rode the cable car up to the monument that is there, that was really nice. I'm not much for things having to do with being up high, but....it was worth it for the views. Back in Munich we attended the Oktoberfest, we went in the Pauliner building, neither of us are drinkers so the beer was a bit strong for me needless to say lol. I'm glad I got to experience Oktoberfest, it was quite exciting. The oompah band was playing American country music, go figure lol. We also visited King Ludwigs castle, took a tour to that and stopped off at another castle on the way as well. What a hike it was to that castle, oh my gosh lol. I didn't have a walking stick but wished I had lol. Such a beautiful country, I hold it close to my heart. I guess that is the German in me.:-)

luneib, was the monument you mentioned the Niederwalddenkmal?
I may be wrong because it is located near Rudesheim,

I don't remember the name of the monument, but when we were going up to it in the cable car, we went over vineyards, all I know is that it was in Mainz.

You click on the Niederwalddenkmal in the posting above (or the one in this post) to see pictures of the monument. That should confirm if that's the one that you saw.

I don't remember what the monument looked like so I couldn't tell if the one you posted was the same one or not, will have to see if I can find some photos of it from my travels, I was too busy looking at the view from above.:-)

I was searching the net, it had to be the Niederwald monument, my gf is German and hardly speaks any English so that was probably the monument we saw, I was reading about someone who posted about her trip to that area and she mentioned they went over vineyards and could see the river below. The monument is actually 16 miles just outside of Mainz from what I read.

Lu,now you know why I have lived in Germany for 44 years. Here I am at home.My forebares come from the Rhein river area. But if you should ever visit Germany again, then visit North Hessen, including Hofgeismar, where I have now lived for 32 years. We have here also a lot of history which other parts of Germany does not have, such as, for instance,Hofgeismar won a war against another part of Germany way back when,by rolling three sixes with the dice while the other side only rolled two sixes and a five. Here“s hoping to see you someday here in beautiful Hessen.

That's what I loved about Germany, there was so much history there and the scenery was just breathtaking.

Luneib, I don't like beer either but at the Oktoberfest I did try a mug of Dunkel beer. Then for my next drink I ordered a Fanta Orange to wash down my Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmuss. Wunderbar!
