My baby seems to have a problem.would anyone know why a cat 3 yearsold would sit around and cry for no reason. I got her from a pet addition center and she had been abused. do you think that she remenbers what happened to her. or could it be she is sick. She eats welland plays real well so I cannot figure out what could be wrong with her. If anyone has any ideas plese let me know at momandpops10@aol.com Thank you so much
Have you had a vet check her out, maybe run some X-rays? I don't know how badly she had been abused but maybe she has some kind of internal injuries which thus far have gone untreated. When I first got "into" owning cats about 8 years ago, the one cat we had adopted kept following me around in the back yard, crying. I didn't know what ever could be wrong with her. So I did nothing but felt horrible for letting her carry on so. I found out that evening why she was crying...she was in labor and ready to give birth to 4 beautiful kittens. No wonder the neighbor didn't want her. We kept her and found homes for the kittens, one of which is my Gizmo. Got mama fixed and who would have guessed this would have happened: Mama cat one morning came proudly to the back door with her night's catch. (She did this every morning). Well, this morning she had gotten a bat! All I could think was rabies. I called my vet, took the bat into her, they sent the dead bat to the state lab and don't you know, it came back the next day positive for rabies. I was broken hearted but we had to have mama put down. :(
I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I have three and have had to put down many before owning these. Or do they own me?/ It is heartbreaking to have to put a pet down. I only have indoor cats for that reason. I do not want anything to hurt them. My brothers cat was an outdoor and it was ripped apart by some dogs. I just coculd not bear that myself.
Thank you so much for your input. It wwas a big help. Does anyone know if it is okay to give a cat an aspirin? If so should it be a baby aspirin. Tamiria seems to have a littlecald so I thought it would be okay to give her one. Thank you Tamirias Mom
We had a kitty who would cry and cry until you went to see what he wanted and then he would stop. We thought he probably just wanted to make sure he was not alone.
I found a wiki answer about giving cats aspirin but it probably is best to ask a vet.
Here is the wiki answer: Answer Yes, you can give baby aspirin to a cat but ONLY 1/4 of one tablet and ONLY once every 72 hours. The baby aspirin should be given with food. The easiest way to give a cat baby aspirin is to tuck the 1/4 tablet into a soft cat treat or bite-sized piece of sausage, wrap it in a tiny bit of lunchmeat, or mix it into a bite of tuna.
Cats don't have the liver enzyme necessary for breaking down aspirin. Thus, aspirin is broken down very slowly. If you gave it a cat aspirin 3-4 times a day, as you would a human being, you would definitely have a dead cat by the second or third day.
NEVER give aspirin if the cat is also on a glucocorticoid (prednisone) or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDS).
I have an abused cat, Amber, that I took from an alley. She had part of her left ear snipped off (with scissors?), her left leg was broken, teeth were missing, and an assortment of health issues.
It took me a year and a half to get her to stop hiding under the bed every time anyone came near her. Then my roommate brought home a new cat that tormented the hell out of her just when she was getting back to normal. Since then I left the roommate situation with her brother, Bandit, and she's as happy as ever.
I only mention all this because it could be the trauma of your cat's abuse and/or perhaps other pets in the household. She might have also had several homes before you got her.
I've had some experience with other abused cats where they never adjusted at all and had to be returned only because they were fighting with my other cats. One cat I gave two months and returned him even though he was affectionate to me, but hated my other five cats especially poor Amber. I'm a sucker for taking in abused cats.
Spunky brings home live and dead rabbits, squirrels, birds, baby raccoons, and anything else he can find. Spunky is still living with my ex-roommate in Pittsburgh. He also lets himself in and out of the apartment because he can open doors. He's now learning to unlock them as well.
I had a cat who would just sit and yowl, for no apparent reason. Whenever I would check him, he was okay. Later I had another cat who did the same thing. I finally decided it was just something some cats do. My cats didn't have abusive pasts, but they did it anyway, so I would imagine having that background might intensify their need to yowl.
Maybe she is just talking and wanting to feel love and attention. Like with humans, she may be remembering and needing the comfort and consolation to reassure her that everything is alright and she has nothing to fear, or be worried about. To get another cat for her would have to be one that wasn't agressive, or it could make matters much worse for her. She's already has been through the wringer of a 'disfunctional' life. You wouldn't want to make her life upsetting again. It sounds to me like she needs love, kindness and understanding, along with lots of patience and.. especially time.
