Don't forget the "infomercial" guy...
Bucking the national trend, even in my industry.
At the mid-point of the sales year, my volume was off about 10%. Now, with the sales year almost over, and a fantastic July, my sales are up almost 7%.
The economy has also been good for my recruiting efforts as more people are looking for a legitimate home-based business that can supplement their income, and be an altenative income source if their job is cut.
I celebrated 25 years in business in July, and it was one of my best months in the past 5 years.
To celebrate our 35 anniversary coming up in October, my wife, Sandy, and I are heading over to Ireland for 8 wonderful days of 60 degree highs, instead of the 90s back in Louisiana.
Can it get any better?
Being self-employed in today's economy - Priceless!

Actually...I agree with you 100%. Have fun in Ireland!
I start at Edwards AFB as an Air Force Civilian employee on 9 November. I just rolled 55 on the 11th of this month. 10 years at that and retire with both Navy and Civil Service retirements!!!!!!!!!!!!
In spite of our 10 day absence from the office, which I partly covered with our trip to Ireland post previously, our Aug '09 sales matched last August. Gotta love it.
In September, we attended our company convention/family reunion in Cincinnati, with another 5 day absence. This time, our month-to-date sales are more than double the previous year.
At least for my, my region and my business is doing quite well.
After a 15% sales deficit for the first half of the year, we finished up by 5 1/2%, and moved up from 65th to 51st in the nation for gross sales volume.
And 3 weeks into the new year, we may be headed for our best year in the past decade.
Anyone else have some success stories to share?

Hi there; I sure miss the people in this group. I don't get hardly any e-mails from this group and at age 62 and alone I really feel alone now. The Gov't has taken my disability after 10 years for illegal reasons and there is nothing I can do. If you thing the young are having a hard time finding work, what do you think a skilled man of age 62 has a chance for work. I live on credit and my good name which won't be too good in the near future. I could sure use a paralegal for the State of Washington but i have no luck. Fight for years to stay alive, yours truely.fpb1234.
My month has been a bit of a roller coaster. On the 4th of September, I went to the doc. I was having some digestive tract issues. He decided to have a CT scan done. The results were a bit mixed. The good news was the diverticulitus. It was handled with anitbiotics and diet modifications. The bad news was the Mass on my left kidney. Insert punch in the stomach here. I saw the urologist on the 10th. The mass was such that trying to take just it was too risky. It was very close to the artery. The only course was to remove the kidney. On the 21st the surgery happened. One hour and forty-five minutes later, the kidney was gone. A few days later the urologist saw me in hospital. The pathology had come back and it was cancerous. Still recovering at home.
I had to talk the Air Force into letting me postpone my start date at Edwards AFB. They were really good about it and moved it to 9 November. This is plenty of time to get healed up. I will be getting my up chit on the 22nd of this month. I will have to redo part of the initial physical but that should be no problem.
We are still looking forward to the move to the desert. My Missus has a sister in Palmdale and one in Oceanside. We are looking at finding a place in California City. It is a planned community that is north and a bit west of Edwards AFB. There are bank owned foreclosed homes now on the rental market at very affordable rates. Some of them are quite nice, including a few that have never had anyone live in them.
To all in the group, I wish all the best of luck. Even after being laid off in the aircraft industry in Wichita in my mid fifties, I was able to find something. It took awhile, being it was a DOD job. I did have a bit of an advantage on this one. It was what was known as a status position. The initial cut was being rated up to 30 percent service connectd disabled, which I am. And being retired from US Navy Aviation Maintenance helped also.
So for those of you who are honorably separated from the Armed Forces, I suggest checking out the USA Jobs website. It can be a bit tedious at times but stick with it. You may find that spot you weren't looking for that fits the bill as it were.
Planning move to Oahu HI- when?
Plan to plant resume seeds 6 mos OUT when going.
HI Unemployment was in Aug 7.4% vs CA now at 12.2.
Darn this govt stimulus, waste that could go to Job Creation.
(Yes Im ticked off)
Id like to work my last 20-30 in Oahu HI & Retire to Kauai.
& have Income to see:
Caribbean, Croatia, So France, Vietnam, Bali, Australia from HI.
Or take another Princess Mex cruise.
Timeline- unknown for action.
& oh yes we bail those banks out & we cant get loans for homes, or starting a business etc.
Whats with that.
Anyone feel like I do?
Im 55.
You are still young! People in their 50's still have a shot at getting hired. But when you get past the 60 mark even though you have the energy, experience etc, very few opportunities exist. That is the main reason I continue to try to build my own business. I am happy to be a new member of this group.

VIetnam is a beautiful place to visit. One drawback is eating while the starving are on the streets looking in and the gov't forbids giving people money.
