WOW! You have a lot to be proud of Clarity. I am so glad that they even took the time to tell us that we shouldn't even try this unless we came from South Carolina. They just want to make sure that we didn't make fools of ourselves.
You can see why I chose to live here, drivers! We South Carolinians live on the edge and also operate with fewer brain cells (witness our Governor)than many others. That makes everything more exciting.
I can see why you would be SO proud, clar! Something tells me that this is not unique to SC, however (my witless neighbors come to mind)...in fact, I am praying they have enough sense between them to NOT light any illegal fireworks in this tinderbox we live in, but I have a feeling my prayers may be futile--keeping my garden hose at the ready here ;o)
When I lived in Arizona I woke up one morning due to an odd noise. Seems the neighbor decided on a red flag day (no open flames or spark causing devices) to do some welding. He started a 3 acre grass fire that was luckily put out about 10 feet from the forest edge. The noise was the pumper truck spraying the flames.
I'm sure my yard (front and back) will look like a war zone (with the remains of fireworks) in the morning when I head outside for the newspapper. Fireworks get shot off in my cul de sac, and sometimes the aim's not very good. My dog'll get a doggie downer before the festivities begin tonight since I won't be around. With luck, he'll sleep through it.
That video's a hoot, Clar. Seems the further south you go, the more folks love their fireworks. It may be a sign of the worsening economy, but this year the local yahoos didn't start launching their rockets until July 1st. In the past, festivities began in mid June. Of course private use of fireworks are illegal here in Florida, but no one's ever enforced the law, guess it would be unpatriotic to prevent people from blowing their limbs off and starting fires in their neighborhoods. Certainly the Chinese love this tradition, they make a fortune selling packaged gunpowder to Americans so we can celebrate our independence with a bang.
I agree NNick, I think the recession has hit the fireworks industry. They just starting shooting them off here last night. We generally get at least a weeks worth of worrying about the trees going up in flames!
