Grills....Gas or Charcoal?

Which do you prefer? Are you comfortable grilling for one?

I have a charcoal grill and I really prefer the flavor it gives to foods, especially if I used some soaked hickory chips when I grill! I've come to appreciate grilled veggies the last few years, and keep skewers handy for kabobs and veggies.

Grilling is something I used to wait for a companion to enjoy, but I realized some years ago that my grilling days would be limited if I didn't learn the mechanics of grilling.

Coleman makes a little "road trip grill" that I might someday get if I choose to go to gas grilling. It looks like it's perfect for most of my grilling needs, and is quite portable, too.

Hello HB! Actually, I have an outside grill that is electric that uses the "charcoal" like the gas grills. I don't like dealing with plain charcoal or the gas tanks, so this is great for me. Sometimes I put the wood chips on it too to add a little different flavor. And I don't mind grilling for just one either, although I don't do it often.

Hi there, Too! Happy 4th! I have to get ready for work....and this 11:30-8:30 shift eats up a lot of my holiday (plus it doesn't get dark until midnight so firework displays are sad affairs in Alaska). Just thought I'd through out a discussion idea that's timely since a lot of people fire up the grills on the 4th!

Happy 4th of July, HB,

Personally, I like the convenience of a gas grill, though I must admit hickory flavor is hard to come by naturally. But, when grilling for one, charcoal is just too much trouble unless it's a little hibachi taken to the beach. Many years ago when my stove broke down, I cooked everything on my grill including a turkey and a cherry pie! Don't want to do that again.

I prefer a gas grill. I do however use a small cast iron box of wood chips above the gas burners to add some of that "smokey flavor".

I prefer the flavor of food with a charcoal grill, but for the past several years, have used a gas grill. I don't mind grilling for just myself, but my grill is very large, so it's rare that I fire it up for just me. I haven't tried those flavored chips - might be something new for me to do!

I also prefer charcoal when grilling, it's just always tasted better to me, however gas is so much nicer for portability, as in if your camping, and hauling charcoal and the grill makes no sense. They make some very nice smaller gas grills that are perfect, lightweight, and quite easy to use.

I also will say I do not like the 'Match Light' charcoal, that taste of the fluid never comes completely out, and I detest that. Last thing I want is a $5 steak tasing like lighter fluid.

Grilled veggies ? That made me hungry...wonder if my neigbors would mind me grillin here at 2:44 am, lol, like I give a rats ukw, what they think.
