I've just received the James Cagney/Public Enemy and have Manhattan Melodrama in my queue.

Sue,
The Lady in Red was important in the Public Enemies movie.

If you have never seen Cagney's Public Enemy(or if it's been a long time) rent it soon.
I was unaware that this movie had been cesored and chopped before it made it to its audience. The copy I rented from Netflix is the complete restored version. I enjoyed watching it and then rewatching it with the commentator sharing lots and lots of interesting info.
I had forgotten how very talented Cagney was-with a gesture, an expression, a phrase.
It was based on the book Beer and Blood which was inspired by true happenings in Chicago.
I also added Manhattan Melodrama to my Netflix queue. It is an important movie inside the movie Public Enemies.
MM is a melodrama but quite enjoyable.

I liked the love story, he was so loving to her and that part might not be true it was lovely. He said all the right things except will you marry me. LOL! guess he wasn't ready for that. Otherwise just a charmer.
My daughter told me that the real girl friend of Dillinger wrote a book about their romance and time togather. I would like to read that book.
He was actually gunned down and could have been arrested that day.
Johnny Depp did not deserve that, but maybe Dillinger did. LOL!
I think he was shot in the back the first shot when taken by surprise at the train station.
Great just looking at Johhny Depp anytime he doesn't wear a costume and is himself. But I liked his Captain Sparrow parts too of the Carribean movies.
He is good in "Danny Bresco" in that he is a undercover officer in the Mafia trying to get out. I liked that because he was in almost every scene and the scenes lights up for me in his acting and just looking at him. Saw that a couple of sundays ago it is really good worth renting
too. Good story line and good acting by all.
The scene at the Coat Check when he takes her with him has to be my favorite. I saw this at a film festival. The audience loved it!
