I grew up having to deal with those things all the time. You want to be real careful with those, They can sting you and it can make you sick. Some are mostly harmless but the yellow ones can be nasty.
They like to hide under damp areas like crawl spaces, porches, anywhere its moist and shady. They are arachnids which makes them in the spider family, and eat some spiders and other bugs.
Watch for them in bathrooms and in fire places and garages. They can crawl right up the draperies and hang there and you never know until they drop on you. They are hard to kill too. Dont try and squish them with a bare hand or foot. You wont win.
OH, thanks! Just what I wanted to know! I don't EVEN want them in my house! What if the cats try to get them?
This one was black. It was under a bunch of dead leaves and stuff...
Eeeeeeeek! Let me reiterate! Now I have to MOVE again! Eeeeeeeeek!
Thankfully, I don't think we have them here. Yikes!
Yikes is right! I did move from urban to rural... and I expected some "stuff"... but I didn't think about all the different "critters" I might have to deal with! Eeeeeeeeek!
Surprising....I thought scorpions liked dry desert places not cool damp ocean...

But Amond, I DO fear them. I WILL wear gloves. Yes, Two, I thought what you thought and had no idear we had them out here! Yes, I know they do have them in parts of California, but I did not think they called the bay area home!
99% of people who get stung by them are trying to pick them up.
We have a joke about rattlesnakes in Florida...99% of people who get bit by a rattlesnake get bit on the same hand, which hand is it? The one that's not holding the beer.
Why in the WORLD would someone try to pick one up??
Because people are inherently stupid...
