The Effect of "Emotional Baggage"

I read this line about “emotional “baggage” in a fantasy novel by Anne Bishop, and the truth of it hit me in the solar plexus.

“Travel Light! For the baggage you bring with you becomes part of the landscape”

What do you think of this?

Carry-on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more ...

Oh, yeah, an ipod, a blow up pillow, a ticket and a smile! Let's go :)

Baxtor, Quippan's son was murdered.

That qualifies. I didn't see that part in the post. I can relate. I did lose my best friend from high school. He was shot standing right next to me. Pretty sad at the time.

It wasn't in the post. It is on her profile which I told you to go read.

Many people in this group have had horrific events in their lives. Telling someone in those circumstances to get over it and move on is not useful, only cold. We get over a bad haircut. We do not get over the death of a loved one, we just learn to live with it. Compassion is a gift we can give

....but we can only give compassion if we have it in our hearts to give.

You're absolutely right on that one!

Baxtor, in spite of the occasional hoof-in-mouth outbreak, your compassion comes through, obliquely, but it's there nonetheless.

Quippan, I'm very sorry for your loss. I admire the razor sharp clarity in your resolve, and in your comments about 'choices'.

Hmmm........."emotional" baggage.

OK, ok, I'm not stupid, I know what baggage means. Ok, enough already, I can get emotional.....maybe sometimes.

What I have difficulty with is, if I have emotional baggage, where is my "dang" baggage compartment? The fewer those compartments, the better. Well, at least I think so. I reserve the right to be wrong.
