Species Extinction

Should we use the DNA of extinct species to bring them back? Would there be value in this, or would our tinkering REALLY mess things up?

I agree with LLL. We have enough problems now to deal with much less having to deal with someone's foul up. Which there would be.

I think they should be left extinct. I don't even feel comfortable with cloning an animal, even if it was a heroic one in service to mankind. Let it be.

Why can't we just put our talents and resources into making life better for those people and creatures that are here on the earth now?

Species' go extinct for a reason. Until that reason is repaired, trying to introduce any new or old species would be a detriment to life in general. To bring back an extinct species is an artificial repair. A "band-aid" if you will. And in cloning extinct species, you don't actually get the original species. You get something close. You can't clone a dinosaur with a frog, and expect to get a true dinosaur. The DNA is corrupted, so you get an abhorrence. And there's no telling where or what that species will evolve into.
You don't fool with Mother Nature!

What about a hominoid from prehistoric times? Ever wonder what that person would be like raised in today's environment? If we had that possibility, should we?

Martinus Beijerinck (1851-1931) said "everything is everywhere. The environment decides." It could be we will find dinosaurs, four foot long dragon flies, and saber toothed cats as we explore the Cosmos. Actually, there is some evidence that the descendent of the saber toothed cat is the Cougar (the four legged kind). On the other hand, the possibilities are frightening. Hmmm. Sounds like a book.

Might it be possible to preserve the DNA of the middle class ? our government is and has been doing everything that it possibly can to exterminate them and they are clearly now a severely endangered species .
