The 60's......

I was looking back at the decade of the 60's and was surprised at what came to mind.
Not only did i see a decade of change, I also saw a decade of death.
We had the killing of 3 civil rights workers down south.
2 Kennedy's were assassinated
The killing of MLK
Kent state
Viet Nam
The Manson killings
Then we end the decade with the Zodiac killer

Were all these events what made the 60's a decade of change. Or just senseless violence.

Was this the most violent decade of all?

Was this the most violent decade of all?

I don't think so

1940-50 - how many dead in WW II ? ( count them all, the war, the holocaust, the russian pogroms )
1920-30 - how many dead in the global depression ?
1910-20 - how many dead in WW I ?
the Napoleanic wars, the various decades of Crusades, the Black Death during the Middle Ages

no two ways around it, recorded human history is one long tale of woe and death

High Captain! In terms of the '60s, don't forget the end of that decade, went out with a "bang," at the Altamont "Free" Concert, on Dec 6, 1969, with the killing of Meredith Hunter.

But I agree, that EVERY decade, so far, has seen its share of violence, all over the planet.

And how about the Middle East -- when was the last "decade" there was NO violence in that region?? How about Africa, which has seen unspeakable atrocities for many, many "decades"?

Way too much violence committed by the human(e) race -- sometimes our species "name" is almost a "misnomer" -- where's the "humanity" in us "humans"?!

Still, I try to remain optimistic, and hopeful that the peace ripples we engender in our own microcosms translate into broad, peaceful effects thru the cosmos... Stay High and Peace! Alison

There has been terriblle violence since the beginning of time. This 1st part here is only for those who believe, so no unbelieving comments are really necessary: in the Garden of Eden, Cain killed his brother Abel, and they were brothers! One interesting thing about those two is very interesting and few people know the real story, but they were actually believed to be half brothers, and if you've ever studied the Bible in depth, Cain was not actually Adam's son. I know that sounds crazy, but look into it if you care to. I'll say no more about it now, since I know this isn't at all the place for me to go into it. That ol' battle between good and evil has made the world go around though...

But, back to the post, violence has ruled this world forever. Every single generation since the beginning of time, and there HAD to be a beginning no matter what you believe, has been ruled by violence. It really makes for some deep thinking....

High again! Soulshine, you say, "...and there HAD to be a beginning no matter what you believe..." I don't believe in a "beginning"! The universe "just IS," with NO "beginning," and NO "end." And NO "explanation" is necessary for how this time-and-space transpires, or what occurs in this time-and-space.

Most of the violence throughout time stems from religious ideology, and perceived ethnic "superiority." Like I've mentioned before, I try to live a life of peace, spreading the thought thru my words and my actions... and if I do that, and you do that, and he does that, and she does that, there WILL be peace... While I do not believe in a 'beginning', I also do not believe in a 'NO "beginning".
I believe that I do not know the answer to that, and it is just fine that I do not know.
That someone killed his brother is a topic because it stands out as abberent - meaning that peace and love is the norm.
