Age discrimination

Do you think age discrimination still exists for older workers?

Oh yes. Guaranteed. Quite a few of us out here, over the age of 50 and who have been laid off can't even get an interview. It's becoming so bad, nation wide, that is was the subject of a news report this morning. It's terrible, but very difficult to prove.

My friend is over 50 she has the experience and education, all she can get are are low paying-part time temporary jobs with no benefits!!! Completely different then her full-time job with benefits that she has been at for over 20 years until it close down! She has been on many interviews, I guess she looks her age!!

Age discrimination for people over 50 is a very strong reality. I have been a receipient of this for many years - to old, to exp, to strong a personality, etc.

Not only YES but H...l yes. I have been looking for work for 2 1/2 years. I have not had an interview since May.

I believe that all discrimination laws should not apply to jobs. They simply have to discriminate to get the right employee. I had a contracting company several years ago and if I did not discriminate in roofers and painters then the jobs would not be done right. It is required to be able to pick and choose. If the law was changed then they could tell us why we aren't right and then we could get education or what ever.

I believe that I may never get hired again.

I believe this to be true, it was stated to me several times during a
interview that most of the people there were much younger than I was. I have bening looking for a full time job for over 3 years, for me its no
work, part time or agency. I am an x-ray tech and when I have applied for jobs as a tech assistant, the answer is the picked someone more
qualified.

The company is work for is forcing older workers to leave, by transferring them to a shift and an area that is considered the worst..

YES YES YES!!!! I have had the displeasure of entering the interview room and seeing the team look at me like I was a doddering old fool. I actually had one lady ask me my age (that's illegal). I have been passed over in favor of a newly minted college grad--never mind my 20+ years of experience--and I was willing to work for less than hem. I think they just want all of us Boomers to go away, die or whatever.
