How can aid show our values if no one knows its us?
exactly that is the prroblem does it make sense to give aid to a country in need that uses this aid to say negative thing about the U.S. who is paying for it?
It seems that frequently American aid to other countries falls prey to corruption. We need to take more precaution that that does not happen and the people it is intended for actually benefit.
to the previous reply i agree with that one would think that is an easy thing to see?
I was at a party with government people from Peru years ago when the subject of aid came up. All those millions were given to them but one person asked," yes, but what have you done for us lately?" I have been against aid outside the USA ever since, We should take care of our own first.
I know that US forign aid is sometimes self serving (i say that without laughing)
If you are giving on an individual basis(probably locally)-that is one thing. If you are using my tax dollars-that is something different.
If the U.S. is sending aid-I want those people to know we sent it.
We could do alot of good in this world-and help our cause too-it would do much more than bullets or bombs.
It is not the people of the world that cause the problems-it is the governments of the world.
For Example-Iran-they don't need humanitarian aid-but if they did-their government is telling their people how evil we are-if they needed aid-and we delivered it-it should send a message that the people of the U.S. are trying to help them-which would go along way toward establishing goodwill with the people of Iran-and helping them realize that their government is lying to them.
I agree with Pancho-we should be helping out the Afghanis' and pakistan-some well placed economic relief would do more than all the bullets and bombs.
trust me it is tax payers dollars that are going over
Well-I want something out of those tax dollars-like letting people around the world know we aren't as bad as their leaders are telling them.
