Newsweek List of What to Read Now

JUly13th issue of Newsweek has a section, "What to Read Now and Why." I haven't read most of the 50 books listed. I think I'll try and work my way through. Two that caught my eye - "The Bear" by William Faulkner. and "Random Family" by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc. Has anyone read either of these?

Check out the list. It is always fun to see who is recommending what.

Here's a link to the list. view link I haven't read any on the list, although my husband has read the one by Phillip Dick and I know several of you here have read The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

I, too, think it's interesting what makes it onto these lists, and honestly I don't put much faith in them, but they ARE fun.... :D

I just ordered up two of them myself at the library - "Night Draws Near" and "Walking with the Wind". They will join the several other books I just ordered and picked up....

I am surprised that I have read at least three of the books: "Years of Wonder"(I love Geraldine Brooks), "The Mississippi Books" (I am a super Mark Twain fan) and "Gilead". I want to read "Brooklyn"

I'm very surprised at some of the books on the list and more surprised that I've read 4 of them: #1 The Way We Live Now, #12. Flannery O'Connor's A Good Man is Hard to Find, #24. Frankenstein, and #44 Year of Wonders.

And I took notes on several others to look for next library trip!

I have read "Kim" and "Frankenstein" just in the past year. Started "Midnight's Children" but had a hard time being in the mood for it, so it remains in THE PILE for now.
