Brandon / Janette - cha cha:
WOW! HOT HOT HOT!!! Loved it. I can't remember -- is Janette a ballroom person? If not, she's a natural at this stuff. Great foot position, attitude, etc. Really good choreography, too. I agree with Nigel -- possibly the best cha cha I've ever seen on the show in the 4 yrs I've been watching. Brandon totally exceeded my expectations. OK -- Mary just said Janette is salsa, so there's some similarity. Still, it was a wonderful performance. Also glad to see that Mia has changed her attitude toward Brandon. I never did understand why she was so negative about him -- he's been wonderful in everything we've seen so far. Maybe something happened during Vegas week that turned her off, something we didn't see.
OHBOY!! Sonya Tayeh!!!! I LOVE her stuff. It's sick and twisted and always amazing. Kupono and Kayla.
I liked it. Interesting, well-danced -- good interpretation of a bad dream. Kupono was better than I've seen him so far. Great characterizations by both of them.
Randi and Evan - Broadway.
Oh boy!! Evan's finally dancing his genre. I LOVE Evan -- I liked him last year when he didn't make it onto the show, and I think he's been fabulous so far. Joey Dowling - I'm not familiar with her. CUTE number! REally interesting choreography. I saw a lot of Fosse influence, but with some interesting twists. I thought it lacked a bit of energy -- crispness, maybe. I thought they did a good job, but it didn't blow me away. I see the potential, though.
Caitlyn and Jason -- Jazz -- Brian Friedman -- aliens? Different! I really liked it! They both played the parts well. I'm not surprised Mary didn't like it. Whether or not one likes the choreography, the dancing really was very very good. They may be in trouble, though.
Philip and Jeanine -- hip hop with Tab and Nap:
I don't think I liked this as well as I've liked some of their stuff before. It was interesting, but it didn't impress me all that much. It was OK. I wasn't nearly as impressed as the judges.
Melissa and Ade -- pas de deux -- Thordal Christensen -- real ballet on SYTYCD! Love it! And they're using Prokofiev's music, NOT Tchaikovsky's -- even better!! This was just lovely. Beautifully danced -- it looked like it was based pretty much on the classic choreography (John Cranko's choreography that was used in the US premiere in '84-85).
Vitolio and Karla -- Quick step -- NOW we're talkin'!! This was wonderful! I loved it! Very creative, very energetic, very entertaining. I really really liked this.
I think Randi/Evan and Caitlyn/Jason are probably in trouble. As for 3rd couple -- could be Melissa/Ade (depends on how folks take to classical ballet), or possibly Kupono/Kayla - not because they danced badly, but I think their routine might get "lost" in all the other creative/unusual performances. We'll find out tomorrow. ....

The Cha-Cha and the Pas de Deux -- Blew me away! I always get weepy watching ballet.
I liked the Hip-Hop routine... The chain was an interesting addition.
Randi/Evan; Caitlyn/Jason; and Kupono/Kayla. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Melissa/Ade wound up in the bottom three. There's a lot of people out there who "don't get" ballet (or opera) and I get both.
I wish they'd bring back another Bollywood routine, that was so much fun the first week.

LanaM I agree and you summed it up well. TwoSpirits, I to liked the Cha-Cha and Pas de Deux, but I also liked the Quick Step too. Now for the bottom three couples, you never know because remember america is voting. Sometimes they have it right and sometimes they don't, so we'll see tonight.
Well, I didn't think that america had the right ones in the bottom three, but the two that went home may have been the right ones to go. What do you all think.
It's hard to say -- I assume from what the judges had to say that Vitolio just hadn't shown enough growth. I will say, based on the solos, that the right decision was made last night -- Vitolio's solo wasn't quite as good as the other two. Of the three girls, Karla's solo was a bit "flat." But I agree -- I'm not sure the right couples were in the bottom three. I LOVED that quick step -- one of the best I've seen on the show as far as technical proficiency is concerned.
I was very pleasantly surprised by Philip's solo -- I think it really was the best of the guys. I really really like him. But he's at such a disadvantage with his lack of formal training in other styles that I'm afraid he'll continue to struggle. My guess is he'll make top 10, then get eliminated. SYTYCD definitely wants him on the tour, and while it's possible for him to be on the tour if he'd NOT in top-10, I just think they'll want him in that select group, what with all the hype he's had.
None of the girls is really standing out to me, except maybe Randi and Melissa. They're very different, so that may be why I focus on them. That's not to say that the other girls are bad -- frankly, I think the level of ability this season among the girls is the best I've ever seen. They're ALL incredible dancers.
Can't wait to see what they get next week.
