More on our little badger dogs...

I was reading an article from the UK about dachshunds, and they of course referenced how the Germans used them to eliminate badgers (scary enough, those things are MEAN!).

I was surprised to read our little guys also hunted something else:
"Although this breed started out being used to eliminate badgers, the German foresters discovered that in packs, the dachshund could also hunt wild boar. The breed turned out to be far more versatile than had been originally planned."

Wild boar? Are you kidding me? No wonder they are so fearless, considering what their ancestors did!

I believe it, You should see Nina mix it with my PBP's if they have something she thinks she wants.
I gave one of them an apple the other day and she thought she should have it. LOL. The just look at her, a good thing too because they could do some harm if they wanted to.
what a racket she can make. She is about 12 lbs and they are 250 and 350 lbs.
So I am careful not to have her around when I give them a treat. Not an easy thing to do, sometimes.

I've watched Luzi walk up to a big dog, and take a toy right out of its mouth. Didn't matter to her that the dog was growling, no sir. She just decided she was going to have it, and she took it. It was lucky for her the big dog didn't decide to make a bratwurst out of her!

Oh Luzi, I can just see her strutting up to that dog! ha ha! Sometimes I think they are just blown away that their growls don't stop these peewees, so it stops them in their tracks...I know that Tensho, our 60 pound husky, just looks down at TQ with a "just go away" expression as TQ takes the first morsels out of her dinner bowl...he just takes one mouthful and walks away. This is our nightly ritual. I think he is asserting himself, and she lets him get away with it every time!

Just tonight I gave Sadie a toy we'd put up because it's so noisy. Well she saw it as her long, lost best friend! Then Gracie decided she wanted it too. It was hysterical! They stood about 3 inches apart, nose to nose. Sadie with the toy in her mouth growling, Gracie barking her baby bark, constantly.
Gracie ended up taking it out of Sadie's mouth!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it! Then Sadie ran and got it out, but I couldn't believe the little gutsy baby did that! I took a video of it with my camera, but can't figure out how to download it from the camera. When I do, I'll post it.

Yes, these little weiners never lost "attitude". What they don't realize is that their badger busting, boar belting ancestors were twice if not three times bigger than they are.

Speaking of weiners, Nellie tangled with a bat Saturday morning. I don't know where it came from or how she got it but I heard her growling several times out my back window. I looked out and saw her standing over something that I thought was a large bird. When I looked closer, it was a bat, still alive and fluttering around. Nellie really thought she had something there. I sent my son out to get her away from it which he did. He also killed the bat and laid it out in the field where the dogs couldn't find it. My Vet's office wasn't open so I had to wait until Monday to call. I had to take her in for a rabies booster which is protocol in Michigan for any dog coming in contact with a wild animal, even if their vaccinations are up to date. So Nellie isn't feeling to well today as a result.

My little Boo-Boo ran a burglar out of our house while several neighbors were robbed and one had a huge doberman loose in thier house that did nothing.
