blocking ads...

is it just me?...the new flashing lord of the rings and the pine cone research ads at the top of eons seem to be really creating a problem for me...takes forever for pages to open...

how can i...or is there a way to block these on my macbook w/safari 4...OSX 10.5.7...

or do you think it's something else creating the problem...i know it's not my internet connection...

We ask that you not block the ads -- and that others not post on how to block our ads -- because advertising is what keeps Eons free to use. :)

The good news: I just mentioned the reports of slow loading to our director of advertising, and he's looking into it now. Should be fixed soon, I hope!

I don't have trouble with the ads here on eons but shockwave.com had a Dell add that slowed the page load to almost zero. Very annoying.

I see no need for ads only, and most especially FLASHING ones, on our screens. If we want to read 'em, we will. But if we don't, we won't. It's still our decision to make, right? Let the seller BEWARE!

I don't mind the ads being here. Without them EONS would not be free. Just as you have the option to not read them, EONS has the options to have them here.

I do find the flashing ones to be quite irritating and thus would never spend any of my money on the product advertised this way, nor would I recommend them.

I do think that EONS should stop and consider that most of the members here are boomers with aging eyes. Show us a little respect and consideration please, and halt that flashing crap. I know that they have an adverse affect on my eyes and I am probably not the only one. When the flashing catches on my bifocals, or just the edge, it is not fun at all. To the youngsters at eons.. you will find yourself in our positions one day.

If the flashing ads really bother you (like they do me) and they are over on the right side of your browser page, you can make the page smaller by bringing it inward toward the left, so that all you are reading are the messages and the ads are covered up. The ads on the top of the page are soon out of sight after you scroll down some. There are ways around these things without taking away our bread and butter, so to speak. It IS what pays for our free Eons.

Keep your bloody ads coming. It means I'll never consider their products and hell will have to freeze over before I do. Thanks, you are saving me money.

One of your advertisers, Verizon has called it quits here in the Pacific Northwest, sold out to a struggling wee company in eastern Oregon, but they still keep pumping the ads here even though they are going broke.

Has Eon's sold it soul to the company store?

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
Picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I hauled Sixteen Tons of number 9 coal
And the store boss said, ""Well, bless my soul""
(Chorus:)
You haul Sixteen Tons, whadaya get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
Repeat Chorus
Born one morning it was drizzl'n rain
Fightin' and Trouble are my middle name
I was raised in a canebrake by an old mama lion
And no high-toned woman make me walk the line
Repeat Chorus
See me comin' better step aside
A lot of men didn't and a lot of men died
I got one fist of iron and the other of steel
And if the right one don't get ya, the left one will
Repeat Chorus
Born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
Picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I hauled Sixteen Tons of number 9 coal
And the store boss said, ""Well, bless my soul""

I can still hear the classic Tennessee Ernie Ford rendition of that old song - seemed like he practically owned it. The words are probably as true today as it was then. Lord of the Rings - stop blinking at me and get out of my life!
