Profit without Principles causes Poverty

I'm not sure where to post this, but I'll try here.

Pulling out of my garage the other day, I smashed my driver side mirror. My husband jerry-rigged it so that I can see out of it. I called NISSAN to see when I could bring in the car and how much it would cost. Here is the breakdown:

Housing $204
MIrror 20
Painting 85
Labor Depends.

So my side MIRROR, the arm of which, by the way is still intact and in working order, can cost anywhere from $300 - 500 dollars. My MIRROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that isn't rape, I don't know what is. This is why people do not bring their cars to dealers for repairs. They have us coming and going.

If all this disregard for the public with only regard for the profit would stop, maybe we could all afford to live in our beautiful country again. We need to take this country back!

I totally agree, Crest. I had mine in the Toyota place the other day for it's 5,000 mile check-up, which is free, but then my transmission fluid was darker than it should have been and needed to be changed. $157.50!!!! To change transmission fluid. Can't be that hard or that expensive to do, but I sure don't know how. To me, that's alot of money that should have been spent elsewhere.

It's not only them. Taking my cat to the vet for a check-up and shots-RIDICULOUS! My yearly check-up-Way too much. I have a foot that neds some workdone on it, but I already know I can't get it done because of the doctor and hospital fees. I'll just stay in pain. The list goes on and on. Cable/internet/cell/home phone-YIKES! It's not just the electricity anymore.

I don't remember the type of car, but in Ireland several years ago, I misjudged the distance and knocked the side view mirror off the rental car. I paid under $100 Euro's to have it replaced (by the rental agency).
I was astounded by how cheap it was. Had I done the same here, it would have been over $500, I'm sure.
I really wish I knew how to service my car, and do simple repairs. And that I had the strength and dexterity to do it. Windshield wipers and fluid, checking the oil and a few of the other fluids, and I have changed a headlight (it really isn't that hard), but the rest.
Mtn, my birds don't need shots, but finding a Vet who will handle birds, not easy. I've had to learn to clip nails and flight feathers myself. I now only take them (3) for checkups every 3 years, or if they look and act "funny". Avian specialists, absolutely awful in terms of expense. Luckily my India-born Vet handles "exotics", and likes Parrots.
Wasn't it nice when a 3 Musketeers was only 5 cents, and you could get a black wax moustache for a penny?

Auto dealerships make almost nothing by selling cars , they count on having a captive customer base of those who bought their cars to gouge for ridiculous amounts for repair and maintenance .

I hate to say it, but American's have gotten lazy. I always fixed my own cars, even changing the muffler and tail pipes which can be a real pain. My son had a argument with a parking lot pole not that long ago, the estimates to fix were $1500 to $2500 (at body shops not dealers), I fixed it all with some epoxy, fiberglass cloth, a new headlight a few hours of work for around $200 (most of that was for the headlight and lens). Even if he had it fixed under his insurance it would have been $500, and they would the rest back in premium increases. I am not saying that everybody should be able to fix their car, but we could do a lot more for ourselves if we want to save money.

It reminds me of what happened in Kuwait when the Iraqis invaded - the people were left with out their servents (usually Iraqis or Jordaian) and found they didn't know how to even make their own meals or how to buy food. You can do a lot on your car without much bother and save a lot of money - or you can take it to the dealer and get hosed.
