Etsy website

Say, I've been trying to get some of my jewelry onto the Etsy site. Have done some of the preliminary tasks of setting up a shop, but haven't gotten anything actually listed yet. For those of you who have Etsy shops...are you happy with your sales?

My main purpose was to have a website and store to tell people about when they ask where they could see my things. Then if other people happened to find me, that would be icing on the cake. There's SO much jewelry on that site, I was really wondering if some of you have had luck selling there.

Hi greatbatch - My daughter and I have Etsy shops since Oct 2007 and have sold some jewelry items, but it's very sporadic. I believe there are so many jewelry sellers on Etsy and if we get "found" we feel lucky! My shop is nardiesarttowear.Etsy.com and her shop is moonlilydesigns.Etsy.com and also moonlilybeads.Etsy.com. She has actually sold more items than I have on Etsy but she has two shops and she is constantly making jewelry and listing destash beads. I make jewelry and crazy quilt items more as a hobby, but also like to sell my creations. We keep our Etsy shops because it is fun for us and you can also advertise your web site. Your items stay in your shop 4 months or until they sell, then you can reactivate items for $.20 each. You can also blog on Etsy and join groups in your field of interest. We've heard there are many sellers on Etsy who sell alot and these people list items frequently. Also it helps to have something different and unique from other sellers.
Hope this helps,

Well thanks Lynn, that's good to hear. My sister started a recent Etsy store for her paintings,(patadamsart.Etsy.com) - she has sold over 400 paintings on e-bay in the last 5 yrs and that impresses me. But she has had no sales from Etsy and it's been a couple of months. That's why I wondered if it would be time well spent. The $$ investment is very minimal so I think I'll continue to pursue it. I'll check out your stores - nice that you can do things like that with your daughter. My daughter has had 3 little ones in 4 yrs, so we're not quite there yet - but I look forward to the day:)

Hi - Tell your sister to hang in there! We have heard and read a few tips (my daughter and I) about getting your name out there on Etsy. If you list things a few days apart, you will have more chances of people seeing your work and going to your store to look around. Since there are over 200,000 sellers on Etsy (probably way more now) it figures one can't see every single shop. Another thing she can do is "showcase" an item for $7 for 24 hours. This puts your item further up on the list so people can see it sooner. Another thing she can do is - go into the "Treasury" and look at those and make comments on some. Out of curiosity people will read her comment (at least we think it helps) and go take a look in her shop. And she can watch for the treasury lists to get below 333 and make a list of her own and even include one of her own paintings. All she has to do is come up with a theme and choose other artists work to feature in her treasury, then start typing in her title as soon as the opening comes up (she has to be in the treasury lists). Tell her I will do a treasury soon and will choose one of her paintings to put in mine - will try to get one done this weekend. Check out our Etsy shops and see what you think - I welcome any comments or suggestions.
Hope this helps,

Hello again - Another tip I did not mention above - when she lists her items, she needs to be specific in her "materials" and the "tags" are very important too. When people do a search for a specific item they will type in words to describe what they are looking for. If descriptive words in her "tags" match up then her item will pull up for them to see. Also - if you or someone else you know starts up a Etsy shop, my daughter moonlilydesigns.Etsy.com creates beautiful shop banners - she did mine and her own shop banners. She just finished graphics design and she has a great imagination! Her prices are very reasonable too, compared to some others on there. If I can't get a treasury done this weekend, I will do one next week.
Hope this helps,
