Why Isn’t There A 21St Century Fox?

Why hasn’t 20th Century Fox changed its name? Where are the twenty-five and fifty year portraits so common not so long ago? When did we find the future less a threat than an opportunity? What will it take for us to shake free of the pessimism that’s burdens us like the chains of Jacob Marley?

I'm a 21st Century Fox, and an optimist. The future is, was, and always has been an opportunity for those who perceive it that way. Chains are for battleships. What portraits are you talking about?

Optimism is in short supply. It's like anyone who advocates a positive future is considered misguided at best and unworthy of serious consideration.

Now, as we await confirmation that Gliese 581 d (the water world) has organic life (as epochal in its way as Columbus voyages), those who should know better speak of the 21st Century as one of diminishing human prospects, if not outright catastrophe. As signs of the times, the Arizona senate approved a law to allow loaded guns in bars and a church in Tennessee asks their parishioners to bring their guns with them when they pray (making me wonder if they're worshiping God or their guns). It's almost as if people find comfort in their unending misery.

What we have is a serious case of collective depression. As for the bonds we've wrapped ourselves in, they're made of the real and imaginary disappointments that we have inflicted on ourselves and it will take something stronger than steel to break them.

Why not 21st Century Fox? Hollywood is far too sophisticated to indulge in any future histories other than implausible fantasies or the end of the Earth. For them, hope isn't marketable.

Well, I emphatically disagree. I'm convinced that despite its inauspicious opening, the 21st Century will be more momentous than the 20th.

That is a reality for many, the victim role is comfortable and the reward is sympathy, so why change? Change is uncomfortable!
