Celebrities

We may read a newspaper everyday or watch television. Sometimes we mindlessly listen to the radio and browse e-mail, the internet and a plethora of other vehicles that bring actors and musicians, politicians and diplomats into our lives that would never be there otherwise.
Inevitably, some one comes along that catches our eye or peaks our curiosity and we read a bit more about them or go to a movie they made. We may ultimately become a "fan" of someone...others turn into fanatics or even idol-worshippers! There are reasons why each of us responds to another individual. Maybe a certain physical characteristic reminds us of a relative or the intriquing way they act captivates us.

Friends of mine thought highly of Farrah Fawcett and felt pity for her struggles, my brother really liked Billy Mays.
Gale Storm was an early memory of mine from television in "My Little Margy"- that's because my mom liked to watch it. Certain shows fill a void, strike a funny bone and one remembers.

I remember when I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and cried when I put my hand on certain players plaques...Why? for some reason they were heroes!
My dad loved them! Willie Mays, hey what's not to love?
I remember when Mario Lanza and Tyrone Power died. My dad was devastated! The family went into mourning! They were like part of our family for me-because dad identified so closely with them.
For me, personally, Ingird Bergman, Jeffrey Hunter and Yul Brynner just captivated me as a child...through being a teenager and beyond.

When JFK died we were all in Catholic School and our hearts were all torn assunder.

Maybe its your tribe, family, religious affilation, ethnic sensibilities, education, but you connect with particular people.

I haven't the vaguest idea what would make someone jump off a building and kill themselves over a singer or movie star they liked...to me that's just not a healthy attachment, but some people have done that.

When someone I really respected, liked or had a crush on died, I lifted my heart to heaven and prayed for them and their families. I've reflected on how and why individuals touched my life- because I believe there is a purpose behind every meeting and relationship.

In the end, I see us all coming from the same place...as an innocent babe and part of the plan of God.

If we do the best with what we have - who can expect more?

The arguing and judgements about the measure of a person's life are not important. The fame and success a person achieves can only be evaluated by The Divine.

The impact of what a person does with their life is felt in the emotions others feel and what they see affected in their lives.

Nobody's Perfect.
We can only strive to be better.

Yes Karen. I guess one gets attached to the outstanding people in some professions and connect with them personally. They seem to leave an indellible mark in your life. Some people even immitate them by making their hairstyles alike or make-up or even their attitudes. I guess it's a way of wanting to get closer to them. I remember a time when we as teenagers used to write to the movie studios for the artist's autograph and what a joy when they would answer us back in their own writing. I still have a stack ot the oldies like Lupe Velez, Johnny weismuller, Sabu, Rita Hayworth and so many more that I have left before my Mom threw most of them away. I loved looking at them. I loved that era.
