Tearing Down The Walls

Tearing down the walls
Built up during a lifetime of loneliness
Made from the bricks of despair
And mortared with a childhood of sadness and indifference
Now hoping to rebuild my life in a different way
Clearing the remnants of my past
And removing all fences and barriers
To permit my advance unimpeded
With a more open view of what lies ahead
A horizon filled with beauty and expectation
Painted with the colors of twilight and sunset
And the glow of requited love.

In awe of this new found view of life
With a heart filled with love and faith
For both family and friends
Now seeing life, not as a punishment
But as something to be experienced,
To be lived; to be adored and shared
No longer locked behind the “invisible walls”
But free to dream and immerse myself
In the warmth of my feelings, my wants and my dreams

Now more free and happy
Than I have been in my entire life
Not entirely forgetting my past
Nurturing the pains of yesterday
And working to understand
Eventually to heal and to forgive
Permitting my inner child to start over
To experience a different life, a better life
Filled with energy and enthusiasm
And with freedom and hope
Now with no walls to block his way

Good for you. One day at a time is all that we are given and all that we are expected to live. Just one day at a time.....

Make it the best!

yes sir, live life with energy and enthusiasm. Being's you're still a young man, why not? The energy part will fade, so get it while ye can, you're in your prime.

Dennis I can relate to the walls you experienced. When I went through depression the first time, I felt as though the glass walls I was behind were shattered. I love people and the glass walls let me see, but not experience the pain. Finally I have been able to be open and free with people. It has made a change in my life that I would not exchange for the glass walls ever again.

Too many of us have built high walls around us. One of the greatest things about getting older is that we are less vulnerable and can start to tear the walls down. This is a powerful poem full of optimism for the future. Stay happy and positive. Every day we have is magical uncharted territory to explore and enjoy.

With a bit of age and seasoning under our belts, we can learn when to build walls, and when to tear them down. Oft times, when the walls come down, the richest experiences and rewards come our way.

Good for you .

That is so true Sherri. When we are older I think we are more open with people if we don't have some deep dark secret to hide. My life is pretty much an open book as you have all found out through my writing here.
