Oops..forgot to say.. This site is supposedly a site to network with other people, so if you feel the need to keep yourself a secret ..why are you even here??? When I click on someones profile and see that 'you have to be a friend to see their profile', I just leave --- not interested anymore
Maybe some are just very picky about who they want to network or share personal info with....they like to do the choosing, rather than letting it all hang out, so to speak....very possible to still be social and keep personal info private, just sharing with those you want a friendship with. I have a number of friends with private profiles. Some have become close friends. I hardly think you are keeping yourself a secret if you are on groups and posting. A private profile does kind of put the damper on what I call "pouncers"....those that like to use profile info to make snap judgements and assumptions that may not be accurate. I have gone through periods in which I had my profile private...its a choice we all have to make for our ourselves.
There are some groups where people will obtain your information and then use it to suggest your opinions are wrong because you are: fill in the blank. Southern? Uneducated? Not traveled? From a red state? Minority? Majority? etc.
My thought is to exchange ideas and if someone wants to become a friend then certainly be willing to share more information.
I'm with you FlirtGirl. This is mostly hurly burly anyway. Though I have met a few people on here I consider nice people and worth knowing there are many I couldn't give a rats ass about. If their profile is closed first of all I think ....they have something to hide. Next I think ..... what they're hiding is hideous.......third I think.... fuck em. I don't need these people cluttering up my life. It's cluttered enough anyway.
A lot of groups welcome mat is only open to new members with 'open' profiles; the NeoCon groups are scared to death of being 'infiltrated' (doing what they do) lol ...
I just closed my profile because I got close to fifty hits in two days. Sometimes that is scary, But what the heck am I afraid of?

I seldom check my profile so I don't care much about that stuff. I reckon if someone has something to say to me they can easily PM me or reply on the open forum format. I'd prefer a PM if they have taken issue with a numbskull comment or something like that I've made.
