just mistakes?

I once wrote a posting about how generals see. Now I am interested in how self glory, or miscommunications have effected battles or wars might you have a few good examples the few I have include
1. Montgomery in world war 2. operation Market Garden he wanted the “honor” of being the first to enter germany Missed got a lot of soldirs killed.
2. churchil & Gallipoli
3. MacArhur and the phillipines why he did not move the fighter planes off the run way so they were all destroyed in first few minutes of the Japanese attack
4. his leaving the Philapines with his and press agent leaving staff and all the wounded
5. battle of Gettysburg when lee lost ‘his eyes” the cavalery under longstreet took themselves out of the battle.
I figure any battle where Patten had to work with another regiment or army

We're here becuz we're here becuz we're here."

Another "song" says, "Ours is not to reason why, ours is just to do or die."

The reasoning is, that when given orders, you just do it. Without a resounding "Yes, but. . . . . "

At the Battle of Isandlwana , Lord Chelmsford split his forces , taking about 2,500 men to chase a group of several thousand Zulus who were purposely drawing him away from his camp . He left about 1,500 men behind to guard the camp who were virtually wiped out by the 20,000 Zulus who attacked them . The Zulus were armed only with spears , while the British had the new Martini-Henry rifle , which could fire 10-12 rounds per minute and had a range of several hundred yards . Even with poor marksmanship the british should have been able to inflict 20-25,000 casualties upon the Zulus , instead they only killed about 1,000 . It was the worst defeat ever of a British force by natives troops .

As if to underscore how bad the British performance was at Isandlwana , immediately after that battle , over 4,000 Zulus attacked 179 British and Boer troops at Roarke's Drift . The 179 troops held the Zulus off for 2 days , killing around 1,000 of them before the Zulus finally withdrew .A great movie was made of this battle starring Michael Caine , I think that the title was Zulu .
